  • Bachelor’s degree in an engineering or related technical field from a four-year college or university. Should be working toward an advanced degree.
  • 3 -5 years engineering experience.
  • Track record of successfully managed/facilitated product launches/programs or equivalent.

Responsibilities
  • Identify and implement improvements (jointly with MQEs) that reduce product cost annually, improve quality and maximize customer satisfaction.
  • Ensure maximum safety, quality, capability and utilization of manufacturing/processing equipment and processes.
  • Facilitate the continuous research and implementation of 'Best Practice' manufacturing/processing methods and processes.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of the Manufacturing/Quality Engineering Strategic plan.
  • Facilitate new product introductions and/or current product modifications.
  • Review and quote processing and production equipment and tools.
  • Ensure effective documentation and control systems are developed, utilized, and maintained.
  • Assist the Product Line Mgr. in recommending, justifying and administering the capital plan.
  • Closing customer 8Ds.
  • Determine, justify, and coordinate the purchase and implementation of new equipment and processes jointly with manufacturing teams (Track tooling and AR expenditure).
  • Review and make disposition on non conforming materials.
  • Prepare and make presentations to customers, employees, and all levels of the management team.
  • Lead and champion a teamwork approach to achieving goals with particular emphasis on Production Teams and AQP Steering Committee activities.
  • Provide technical leadership, training, and support to manufacturing teams as well as peers.
  • Lead, motivate, and develop employees.
  • Supervise employees; this includes ownership for the hiring, development, performance mgt. and succession planning processes.
  • Facilitate open and effective communications.
  • Continually improve health, safety, and environment.
  • Manage the day-to-day production inventory.
  • Facilitate thru-put improvement processes.
  • Actively participate in identifying and implementing scrap reduction plans.
  • Facilitate process ownership in all areas where production personnel control processes through the use of SPC, check-sheets, etc.
  • Promote and support a teamwork approach to achieving goals with particular emphasis on DCP and AQP activities.
  • Ensure open and effective communications.
  • Promote and support workforce diversity.
  • Maintain a work environment where third party intervention is not required or desired.
  • Development of specific work procedures to minimize risks.
  • Training of employees on the procedures and enforcing their use.
  • Facilitating workplace inspections and closure of findings.
  • Facilitating employee involvement in developing, implementing and revising safety and health procedures.
  • Performance towards assigned site safety and health program objectives.
  • Timely incident investigations and correction of root causes.
  • Participation / attendance at safety meetings and training.
  • Tracking of safety issues to closure.
Desired Qualifications
  • Skilled in the following: DOE, GD&T, FMEA, SPC, Time & Motion Analysis, Economics & Cost Analysis and Value Analysis.
  • A skilled manufacturing engineer in a core functional area, such a machining, electro-mechanical assembly, electrical engineering or molding.
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing (including automation) and quality systems.
  • Working understanding of the budgeting process.
  • Successful project launch experience.
  • Strong project management, communication, organizational and presentation skills.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Good team and people-management skills, including team-building, motivation techniques and a good understanding of effective supervisory concepts and practices.
  • Good knowledge of effective health, safety and ergonomic concepts and practices.
  • Good knowledge of the automotive industry and its customers.
  • Good knowledge of visual factory concepts.
