The Cruise Government Affairs team is hiring an experienced community engagement leader to join our growing global Public Affairs function. Reporting to the Director of Public Affairs, the Senior Manager, Head of Community Engagement will be responsible for Cruise’s state and local non-governmental stakeholder engagement across our operating markets. This role will lead a team of regional community engagement managers who oversee existing Cruise markets and also manage a portfolio of new markets while hiring the team to lead these markets. This role requires cross-functional collaboration across Cruise teams including Federal, State and Local Government Relations, Marketing, Communications, Real Estate, Customer Support, and Operations. The ideal candidate will be passionate about Cruise’s mission and have experience in regulatory, public policy and/or political work in a relevant business or non-governmental organization, or in a political/government entity at the state or local level within the Central and Eastern regions.
Responsibilities:

Lead Cruise’s community engagement function, including building out the team, to ensure a strong corporate reputation while also advancing priority policy objectives

Lead planning and execution of tentpole community engagement initiatives and events

Track local and state developments against community priorities and find opportunities to advance business and public policy objectives

Collaborate with Cruise’s Real Estate, Market Development, Customer Support and Commercial Operations teams in ensuring our entry into new markets promotes a positive corporate reputation and community presence

Develop and implement an integrated community engagement strategy for new Cruise markets, eventually hiring regional managers for those markets. This includes identifying strategic community engagement opportunities, engaging and activating advocates to support legislative and regulatory priorities, and engaging and managing local consultants across new markets.
Requirements:

BA/BS required
-
8+ years of proven experience in government, government affairs, public affairs, transportation, the automotive industry, or a related industry.

Experience in building strong and sustained relationships with a diverse range of community partners, including community based organizations, governmental agencies, think tanks and advocacy groups, as well as internal collaborators

Demonstrated success in developing and implementing a strategy with national and local scope and considerations

Expertise in issue spotting, researching, and identifying complex policy issues and opportunities, and writing recommendations for future policy considerations

Ability to adapt quickly to changes in priorities and remain productive while handling multiple assignments under pressure and meeting rigid deadlines
-
Experience identifying and understanding key technical aspects pertaining to corporate operations in state and/or local political environments, understanding business implications, and synthesizing information for internal and external customers

Ability to maintain the highest personal levels of ethical conduct, confidentiality, and integrity

Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills, with the ability to excel in one-on-one, group, and town hall settings

Excellent people, team and consultant management capability, including 2+ years of experience developing, mentoring and leading a team

Frequent travel within the US should be expected to support local engagement efforts in the regional markets, along with occasional travel to our global headquarters in San Francisco
The salary range for this position is $168,200 - $247,200. Compensation will vary depending on location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. You may also be offered a bonus, restricted stock units, and benefits. These ranges are subject to change.
