Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree in Athletic Training or a similar degree is required.
  • Graduation from a college or university accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education is required.
  • An unrestricted state license, registration, or certification in an authorized jurisdiction is required to provide healthcare within the scope of practice for athletic trainers.
  • Active Board of Certification certification is required.
  • Active Basic Life Support certification is required.
  • A National Provider Identifier is required.
  • Five years of relevant athletic training work experience are required.
  • At least 12 months within the preceding 36 months must be as a Certified Athletic Trainer with collegiate athletes, professional or Olympic athletes, or military personnel.
  • U.S. citizenship is required.
  • Willingness to participate in a background check and required screening is required.
  • Current physical and immunizations are required.
  • The ability to lift and manipulate loads or weights up to 20 kilograms/45 pounds must be maintained.
  • The employee must work on the premises to perform the job.
Responsibilities
  • Assist the Commanding Officer, in cooperation with the assigned Marine command and Physician, in designing effective physical readiness programs.
  • Assist supported commanders and assigned Force Fitness Instructors in designing evidence-based physical training plans that optimize performance and mitigate injuries.
  • Participate in regular meetings and remain aware of unit training schedules and applicable service and unit policies, directives, and orders.
  • Provide coaching and guidance on applied anatomy, exercise physiology, kinesiology and biomechanics, physical conditioning, injury prevention and recognition, rehabilitation, stretching, posture, and body mechanics.
  • Consult with physicians and other privileged and credentialed providers regarding patient care.
  • Evaluate and treat musculoskeletal injuries using therapeutic exercise, manual therapy, hydrotherapy, cryotherapy, ultrasound, phonophoresis, iontophoresis, and muscle stimulation.
  • Operate rehabilitation and exercise equipment, including Biodex equipment, ski and stair machines, treadmills, gravitron equipment, free weights, universal machines, BAPS boards, back systems, Anodyne equipment, and aquatic therapeutic devices.
  • Provide post-injury treatment in collaboration with the overseeing physician for soft-tissue damage, edema, muscle atrophy, pain, overuse injuries, decreased circulation, loss of strength, and biomechanical imbalance.
  • Design and fabricate protective pads, equipment, and braces, including applying proper taping techniques.
  • Provide emergency first aid, evaluate injuries, render initial treatment, and perform initial examinations.
  • Train and guide supporting workers during rehabilitative procedures in accordance with clinical standards and athletic trainer treatment protocols.
  • Participate in meetings to review and evaluate patient care, identify care-improvement opportunities, and recommend corrective action.
  • Provide periodic in-service training to clinical and administrative staff on subjects related to patient care and attend required annual training.
  • Maintain treatment documentation and prepare required records and reports.
  • Ensure safe and effective operation of patient-care equipment and contribute to a safe working environment.
  • Track medical-supply inventory, notify the government when replenishment or equipment maintenance is needed, and recommend rehabilitation equipment for purchase.
  • Document assessments, treatments, and follow-up care daily, including cause, contributing factors, duration, diagnosis, and follow-up for research and injury-prevention analysis.
