Requirements
  • Completion of a formal post-secondary or college program of two academic years; an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Two years but less than three years of related experience.
  • Previous experience in a social services or mental health setting.
  • Experience with program facilitation, administrative duties, and program development.
  • Experience performing administrative tasks.
  • Current First Aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation certification.
  • A current criminal record and vulnerable sector check.
  • A valid driver's license and clean driver's abstract.
  • Competence in developing and maintaining appropriate client and interagency relationships.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and video conferencing applications such as Microsoft Teams and Zoom.
  • Ability to enter data and perform statistical analysis accurately and efficiently.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and independently while providing necessary information and documentation.
  • Ability to manage multiple cases with attention to detail.
  • High standards of integrity, judgment, and confidentiality.
  • Ability to deal effectively with the public, government, business leaders, and professionals.
  • Ability to clearly articulate The Salvation Army's mission, values, and beliefs.
Responsibilities
  • Provide casework support to individuals on the Budget Management Program in accordance with contract obligations, policies, procedures, and organizational standards.
  • Work one-on-one with clients and provide group support and workshops on relevant topics.
  • Manage an assigned caseload, complete client intakes and discharges, maintain communication with clients, and maintain complete client files.
  • Prepare monthly budget plans with clients, establish financial goals and development milestones, and disburse income assistance benefits to meet basic needs.
  • Conduct individual client sessions and record the nature of each session, including discussions with social workers.
  • Maintain regular communication with clients to review budgets and develop money-management and life skills supporting independence.
  • Connect clients with internal and external agencies and coordinate services to provide appropriate care.
  • Maintain accurate, comprehensive, and current records of client income, expenses, and funds issued.
  • Prepare client forms for Old Age Security Pension and Canada Pension Plan benefits.
  • Participate in cheque distribution and prepare cheques for bills, expenses, and personal allotments.
  • Maintain the client management database with required information.
  • Prepare and facilitate budget-management seminars and group education opportunities.
  • Assist clients with accommodation, food, creditor mediation, and other supports related to financial health.
  • Participate in department staff meetings and strategic planning to align programming with evolving client needs.
  • Connect clients with Salvation Army supports, including Pathways of Hope workers, addictions counsellors, and pastors.
  • Help clients address underlying barriers contributing to money mismanagement, including social, mental, physical, and spiritual well-being.
  • Complete monthly spreadsheets tracking client progress and achievements.
  • Maintain detailed case notes and client records.
  • Support administrative staff in creating accurate client budgets.
  • Monitor and maintain client expenditures and internal control practices.
  • Assist with cheque requests and correspondence to Territorial Headquarters as required.
  • Answer phones, greet clients, process payables and receivables, and perform data-management duties.
  • Respond to client questions and concerns by phone and email while coordinating information with administrative staff.
  • Maintain contact with Ministry of Social Services Income Assistance workers regarding client finances and casework.
  • Support daily mail processing and monthly accounting reports for trustee clients; request, administer, and record cheques and income; sort cheques; and communicate with Social Assistance regarding balances.
  • Assist front-desk staff with distributing cheques at the beginning of each month and supporting clients at the front desk.
  • Track statistical information as required.
  • Coordinate work across departments to ensure comprehensive client services are available.
