Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • At least 8 years of experience as a Software Engineer on large, production software applications.
  • Strong Python engineering skills, including dependency and environment management with Poetry.
  • Hands-on experience with Amazon Web Services, particularly S3, Athena, DynamoDB, Kinesis, SQS, ECS, and CloudWatch.
  • Experience building RESTful APIs and services with FastAPI.
  • Hands-on experience with infrastructure as code using Terraform.
  • Experience containerising applications with Docker.
  • Experience working with Parquet, Hive-partitioned datasets, and SQL against large tables using Athena or Presto.
  • Working knowledge of the PyData stack, including pandas, NumPy, Jupyter, matplotlib, and Seaborn, for data manipulation, experimentation, and visualisation.
  • Experience troubleshooting data-quality issues.
  • Testing experience with PyTest and meaningful test coverage.
  • Experience with observability tooling such as Datadog.
  • Knowledge of design patterns and software architecture.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Good presentation and teamwork skills.
  • Comfort working in both Agile and Waterfall methodologies.
Responsibilities
  • Design, implement, and maintain Python services within the pricing platform, including data-processing logic and integration of machine-learning and optimisation models.
  • Write clean, efficient, well-tested backend and data-services code.
  • Build and optimise Amazon Web Services data pipelines to collect, transform, and serve large datasets.
  • Work with S3, Athena, DynamoDB, Kinesis, and SQS for data lakes, querying, caching, streaming, and queue-based integration, including customer-facing bring-your-own-stream pipelines.
  • Develop secure, well-documented, and performant RESTful APIs and FastAPI services at scale.
  • Write and maintain comprehensive tests using PyTest and ensure appropriate coverage before deployment.
  • Own infrastructure as code using Terraform.
  • Containerise applications with Docker and use Bitbucket Pipelines and Jenkins to automate build, test, and deployment workflows.
  • Deploy services into production and maintain their health.
  • Build observability with Datadog and CloudWatch.
  • Investigate data-quality issues, typically using Athena, and diagnose infrastructure problems using CloudTrail and CloudWatch.
  • Work with data scientists to productionise pricing and optimisation models.
  • Implement post-deployment monitoring for model performance, accuracy, and reliability.
  • Contribute to architectural decisions and suggest improvements to systems and processes.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers.
Desired Qualifications
  • Familiarity with machine-learning and optimisation frameworks used to productionise pricing models.
  • Git for version control, Bitbucket for collaboration, and experience configuring continuous integration and continuous delivery pipelines using Bitbucket Pipelines and/or Jenkins.
  • Exposure to Amazon Web Services security and networking services such as WAF and to cross-account S3 replication.
  • Experience in travel, airline retailing, or e-commerce.
