Requirements
  • A B.S. or M.S. in Biological Sciences, Bioengineering, or a related discipline, with at least 2–3+ years of relevant experience in cell biology and/or immunology.
  • Three to five or more years of experience with flow cytometry analysis, cell culture, and in vitro experimentation with mammalian cell lines in a biotechnology, pharmaceutical, contract research organization, or academic setting.
  • Theoretical and practical understanding of flow cytometry, including experience designing and executing panels with more than 12 colors.
  • Strong laboratory experience with whole blood, peripheral blood mononuclear cells, cell lines, and single-cell suspensions from tissue samples.
  • Ability to independently write, edit, and follow standard operating procedures; make careful, detailed observations; and maintain clear, complete laboratory records.
  • Ability to clearly communicate results and findings in cross-functional team meetings.
  • Proficiency in Excel, PowerPoint, GraphPad Prism, FlowJo, and electronic laboratory notebook/laboratory information management systems for data entry, analysis, and presentation.
  • High integrity and adherence to strict compliance standards.
Responsibilities
  • Design and execute in vitro immunological and cellular assays to characterize and optimize engineered primary cells.
  • Develop ex vivo sample-processing protocols and execute multiparameter spectral flow cytometry using the Cytek Aurora to analyze drug-discovery assay readouts.
  • Handle primary cells, particularly immune cells, including cell isolation, culture, and transfection using messenger RNA-encoded therapeutics.
  • Design and execute immune-cell assays to assess the efficacy and potential toxicity of key drug candidates.
  • Use cell-based and molecular biology assays with standard readout techniques to evaluate the quality of research material.
  • Ensure data collection is captured in electronic laboratory notebooks and databases.
  • Collect and analyze data, summarize results in study reports, and provide regular updates at internal cross-functional meetings.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience with mammalian cell manipulation using messenger RNA transfection with lipid nanoparticles and/or electroporation.
  • Experience performing cell-based assays including in vitro/ex vivo cytotoxicity assays, proliferation assays, and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay/multiplexed electrochemiluminescence.
  • Plasmid cloning, RNA handling, in vitro transcription, and transfection and transduction of primary cells.
  • Experience with gene or base editors.
  • Familiarity with laboratory automation systems such as Hamilton liquid handlers and AssistPlus.

Strand Therapeutics names Kunal Bhatia CFO following $153M Series B

Strand Therapeutics has appointed Kunal Bhatia as Chief Financial Officer to lead corporate strategy and capital formation as the Boston-based biotech scales its programmable mRNA platform. Bhatia will oversee finances, capital raising and strategic partnerships, reporting to CEO Jake Becraft. Bhatia brings approximately 15 years of investment banking experience, having worked on fundraising, business development and mergers and acquisitions for over 100 biopharmaceutical companies. He previously served as interim CFO and Chief Business Officer for private life sciences firms and was a Managing Director at Cowen's Healthcare Investment Banking Group. The appointment follows a $153 million Series B round led by Kinnevik, with participation from Regeneron Ventures, Amgen Ventures and Eli Lilly. Strand is advancing its lead candidate STX-001 in advanced solid tumours.
