Requirements
- A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
- Graduation from an American Medical Association-approved school of Radiologic Technology, either college-affiliated or hospital-trained, is required.
- Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing, is required.
- Ability to work effectively with physicians, staff, and patients is required.
- Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider certification from the American Heart Association is required.
- Certification as a Radiologic Technologist through the California Department of Public Health is required.
- Fire Life Safety Training from the City of Los Angeles is required; if not held at hire, it must be obtained within 30 days and renewed before expiration.
- Current certification in Radiography through the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists is required.
Responsibilities
- Perform and assist with radiographic and fluoroscopic procedures according to the department procedure manual, considering the patient's physiologic and developmental age.
- Review radiographs for proper positioning, technique, and identification.
- Demonstrate working knowledge of radiographic equipment in the department and assigned clinical areas.
- Use correct anatomic positioning skills and apply markers appropriately.
- Adjust technical factors according to patient age and body part while minimizing radiation exposure.
- Process digital imaging cassettes with proper identification and return them to the proper location.
- Confirm patient identification verbally by checking the patient's name and birthdate.
- Review physician orders to ensure the proper exam protocol and appropriate examination are followed.
- Recognize emergency situations, indicate a code, and administer aid as appropriate.
- Record pertinent patient information, complete required paperwork, and assist in maintaining files.
- Keep X-ray rooms and workstations neat, orderly, prepared, and stocked with necessary supplies; assist with ordering and stocking department supplies and equipment.
- Transport patients, schedule exams, and assist in the file room as directed by the supervisor or director.
- Participate in after-hours standby and callback and use a pager while on duty and on standby.
- Use organizational skills and manage time effectively.
- Maintain cooperation with other departments, medical staff, and employees.
- Mentor students and less experienced technologists and serve as an information source for them.
- Use the chain of command to communicate concerns with the department, coworkers, or medical staff.
- Work assigned schedule hours, including weekend rotations, standby, and callback.
- Provide radiation protection to patients, staff, and self according to policy and standards.
- Introduce oneself to patients and explain the examination to be performed.
- Participate in the regular rotation of weekend hours.
- Perform other assigned duties.
Desired Qualifications
- Previous acute hospital experience as a radiologic technologist or student technologist is desired.
