Boku operates a global mobile payments network that lets online businesses accept payments through direct carrier billing and mobile wallets. It connects merchants to mobile operators and digital wallets, enabling customers to pay with their phone number and have charges appear on a carrier bill or deducted from a wallet balance. It stands out by emphasizing carrier billing and mobile-wallet payments at scale across many countries, especially in markets with low credit-card penetration, rather than relying on traditional card gateways. The goal is to help brands monetize services globally by providing a simple, bank-agnostic way for consumers to pay using their mobile accounts.

What believers are saying

  • H1 2026 revenue rose 11% to $66.5 million, showing continued execution.
  • FY2025 revenue jumped 30% to $128.8 million, with EBITDA margin expanding to 32.1%.
  • Brazil Pix production launched May 11, 2026, opening a huge regulated market immediately.

What critics are saying

  • Boku cut FY26 revenue guidance on July 7, 2026, from $155 million to $135-142 million.
  • DCB still drove 54% of FY2025 revenue; wallet mix shifts can compress take rates.
  • If major merchants migrate to Adyen, Stripe, or PSP-native wallets, Boku becomes redundant.

What makes Boku unique

  • Boku’s Brazil Pix licence and live launch expand regulated local-payments reach in 2026.
  • Boku spans 200-plus payment methods across wallets, A2A, and carrier billing globally.
  • Boku’s merchant-embedded network wins Canva, Microsoft, and gaming clients needing cardless checkout.
