Requirements
  • A high school diploma and two years of work experience in a clinical or research setting, or a bachelor's degree in chemistry, biology, or another natural, life, or health care science in place of the required experience.
  • Previous experience in a laboratory.
  • Ability to perform calculations, follow experimental procedures and methods, and develop independence with tasks and experiments.
  • Ability to maintain a laboratory notebook.
  • Ability to work some weekends, holidays, and/or evenings.
  • Ability to work rotating shifts and overtime as required.
  • Ability to learn and use new processes, tools, and equipment as required.
  • Ability to perform the listed physical functions, including lifting and carrying laboratory materials and equipment, performing repetitive fine-motor tasks, working in temperature extremes and confined spaces, and maintaining required vision, hearing, olfactory, and respirator-use qualifications.
Responsibilities
  • Provide technical assistance to the Principal Investigator in cancer research studies and assist with laboratory operations.
  • Perform molecular biology experiments, including isolation and purification of proteins and nucleic acids, followed by immunoblot analysis.
  • Maintain cell lines and perform cell culture and in vitro functional assays.
  • Assist with daily laboratory operations by stocking consumable items and reagents, making buffers, and aliquoting reagents.
  • Perform routine maintenance of and experimentation in mice, including weighing and measuring mice and treating them with compounds.
  • Assist the Principal Investigator in ensuring that laboratory personnel adhere to the IACUC animal protocol and aid in IACUC inspections.
Desired Qualifications
  • Previous experience working with western blotting, reverse transcription quantitative polymerase chain reaction, and cell culture.
  • Prior experience working with mice.
  • Strong organizational, record-keeping, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Attention to detail.
