Requirements
  • A Doctor of Dental Surgery or Doctor of Dental Medicine degree from an accredited university is required.
  • An active license in Alaska or another United States state is required.
  • Board certification in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery is required.
  • Basic Life Support, Advanced Cardiac Life Support, and Pediatric Advanced Life Support certifications are required.
  • Working knowledge of proper infection control techniques is required.
  • Understanding of the principles of dental disease and appropriate treatment therapies is required.
  • Oral and written communication skills are required.
  • Hand dexterity skills are required.
  • Diagnostic skills are required.
  • The ability to make accurate clinical judgments is required.
  • The ability to sit over patients for hours at a time is required.
  • The ability to teach others in classroom and clinical environments is required.
Responsibilities
  • Administer general and local anesthetics, as well as anesthetics or sedatives to control pain.
  • Collaborate with healthcare professionals, especially the Resident Program Director, to plan or provide treatment.
  • Evaluate the position of wisdom teeth to determine whether problems exist currently or might occur in the future.
  • Analyze patient data to determine patient needs or treatment goals.
  • Perform surgery to prepare the mouth for dental implants and aid in the regeneration of deficient bone and gum tissues.
  • Remove impacted, damaged, and non-restorable teeth.
  • Treat infections of the oral cavity, salivary glands, jaws, and neck.
  • Treat acute illnesses, infections, or injuries.
  • Remove tumors and other abnormal growths of the oral and facial regions using surgical instruments.
Desired Qualifications
  • Five years of working experience is preferred.
  • An Alaska license is preferred.

Juneau Youth Services provides emergency, residential, and community-based behavioral health care for children, teens, and their families in Alaska. Services are tailored and strengths-based, delivered in home-like, least-restrictive settings where trained caregivers and clinical professionals form therapeutic relationships to support youth development and family functioning. The programs operate under the Teaching Family Model and focus on keeping or reunifying children with their families when appropriate.
