Requirements
  • Graduation from a school of Physical Therapy approved by the Council on Medical Education of the American Medical Association and the American Physical Therapy Association.
  • Two years of physical therapist experience.
  • A current valid license as a physical therapist from the California State Board of Medical Examiners or eligibility for such registration at the time of appointment.
  • Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation certification through the American Heart Association for the Healthcare Provider.
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of physical therapy and knowledge of practices of other disciplines.
  • Ability to evaluate, plan, and carry out physical therapy rehabilitative programs for individual patients.
  • Ability to explain, demonstrate, and teach physical therapy rehabilitative measures.
  • Ability to supervise supportive personnel.
  • Ability to work effectively with others in an interdisciplinary team relationship.
  • Ability to be self-directed and seek direction and consultation as needed.
  • Ability to express oneself clearly verbally and in writing.
  • Basic computer skills.
Responsibilities
  • Evaluate patients upon referral by performing appropriate functional assessments related to physical therapy.
  • Identify appropriate goals and administer effective treatment plans.
  • Implement and modify treatment plans efficiently.
  • Observe and evaluate treatment effects and recommend changes to the physician as needed.
  • Formulate teaching plans based on identified learning needs and evaluate their effectiveness, including family training when appropriate.
  • Complete all documentation required by policy, procedure, or regulation.
  • Delegate and supervise patient treatment as appropriate to physical therapist assistants and physical therapist aides.
  • Co-sign all physical therapist assistant and physical therapist aide notes.
  • Participate in in-service education programs.
  • Participate in clinical instruction of students.
  • Ensure patient charges are accurate.
  • Complete the billing sheet accurately by the end of the day.
  • Assist with orientation of registry and newly hired staff as directed.
  • Instruct and provide in-service education to other disciplines regarding physical therapy functions.
  • Keep abreast of current trends and developments in physical therapy and rehabilitation.
  • Participate in professional activities to continue professional development and contribute to the physical therapy profession.
  • Adhere to the American Physical Therapy Association Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice for Physical Therapy.
  • Attend department staff meetings and read and sign off on missed staff meeting minutes.
  • Provide orientation to newly hired staff.
  • Maintain 24 hours of continuing education, including hospital in-services and seminar attendance.
  • Give two in-service presentations.
  • Provide six hours of teaching.
