Summary & Objectives:
MKS Instruments’ OSP division designs, manufactures, and distributes a wide range of optical sensors and systems to measure temperature and position. These products improve performance and enable innovation for our customers and are used in the semiconductor and other high technology industries. Our clients provide solutions to some of the biggest semiconductor manufacturers whose products can be found in everyday electronic devices, cellphones, smart watches, TVs, and computers. MKS Instruments is seeking an exceptional Manufacturing Engineering intern to join the team. In this position, you will play a key role in supporting the development of new technologies and products. The intern will report to a supervisor within the Engineering group and will complete tasks as outlined below during their tenure. This position offers an outstanding opportunity for growth and development through hands-on exposure to a wide range of technical activities, including one or more of the following:
Principal Responsibilities:
- Learn and actively support the team in Process Automation Initiatives to improve workflow efficiency.
- Participate in New Product Introduction (NPI) and special project initiatives, contributing to innovation and project success.
- Engage in Continuous Improvement projects, applying Lean tools and 6S methodologies to optimize processes.
- Deepen your understanding of Lean Six Sigma process tools and how they drive operational excellence.
- Gain proficiency in using statistical software such as JMP, with the ability to perform multi-factorial DOE (Design of Experiments).
- Develop a comprehensive understanding of Product Development processes, contributing to product innovation.
- Expand your knowledge of manufacturing processes, particularly in optics manufacturing, to support production improvements.
- Perform Root Cause Analysis and 8D problem-solving to address and prevent recurring issues.
- Be flexible and willing to take on any additional duties, projects, and responsibilities as required by the company.
Required Skills:
- Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s Degree program for Mechanical, Electrical, or Manufacturing Engineering.
- Able to read and understand detailed work instructions, electrical schematics, and mechanical drawings.
- Possess effective problem-solving abilities and a willingness to learn on the job.
- Organized with attention to detail, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to work well in a team, along with good oral and written communication skills.
Competencies:
- Excellent time management skills and commitment to meet deadlines.
- Excellent communication and technical writing skills.

Compensation:
Salary Pay Range: $32,000 - 52,000. This rate is a reasonable expectation of pay for this position, based on a range of factors including qualifications, experience, education, training, operational and business needs and other considerations.
