Responsibilities
  • Prepares prescribed solutions and administers anesthetic following specified methods and procedures.
  • Collaborates with anesthesiologists, surgeons, and other physicians and medical professionals to deliver anesthesia for medical and surgical procedures.
  • Perform pre- and post-anesthesia patient visits and document anesthesia notes on patient records.
  • Review medical history, evaluate patients and determine proper methods of anesthesia.
  • Perform or evaluate diagnostic tests, such as radiographs (x-rays) and electrocardiograms (EKGs).
  • Measures and monitors the level and speed at which anesthesia is administered.
  • Monitor patient vital signs to ensure safety, including skin color, pupil dilation, pulse, heart rate, blood pressure, respiration, ventilation or urine output.
  • Inform physician of patient’s condition during anesthesia.
  • Manage patients’ airway or pulmonary status using techniques such as endotracheal intubation, mechanical ventilation, pharmacological support, respiratory therapy, and extubation.
  • Oversee patient recovery from anesthesia and care for patient’s immediate post-operative needs.
  • Prepare prescribed solutions and administer local, intravenous, spinal or other anesthetics following specified methods and procedures.
  • Respond to emergency situations by providing airway management, administering fluids or drugs, and using basic or advanced life support techniques.
  • Develop anesthesia care plans.
  • Adhere to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.
