Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a major in accounting, finance, economics, public or business administration, or a closely related field, plus one year of professional experience in accounting, budgeting, auditing, accounting analysis, or financial management research; alternatively, one year with Pima County in an Accountant I, Financial Analyst I, or closely related position may qualify.
  • Relevant experience and/or education from an accredited college or university may be substituted.
  • A valid driver's license is required at application, and a valid Arizona driver's license is required at appointment.
  • Successful completion of a post-offer, pre-employment background screening is required.
  • A post-job-offer physical examination and/or drug screen is required.
Responsibilities
  • Perform accounting internal control activities, including reconciling cash, matching automated accounting system data to source documents, and balancing input against control and validation reports.
  • Analyze and reconcile discrepancies between data input, internal controls, and output reports.
  • Create adjusting or correcting accounting transaction documents to address discrepancies.
  • Ensure data entered into the automated financial accounting system is processed, balanced, recorded, and reported accurately and timely.
  • Analyze and classify transactions and items by researching source documents to determine the appropriate transaction code, item code, funding source, and record-keeping requirements.
  • Ensure departmental compliance with Board of Supervisors policies and Administrative Procedures.
  • Observe accounting processes and recommend procedural improvements and changes to report output.
  • Assist in developing and maintaining internal controls.
  • Review accounting reports for revenue and expenditure accuracy and recommend necessary corrections.
  • Bill, collect, account for, and manage a variety of debts.
  • Assist in training and reviewing the work of accounting support personnel.
  • Assist in testing financial system upgrades and reports.
  • Prepare, project, and monitor departmental and grant budgets and prepare reports for submission to private grantors and state and federal governments.
Desired Qualifications
  • At least two years of experience using Microsoft Excel.
  • At least two years of experience processing accounts payable.
  • Experience writing and/or editing procedures.
