Requirements
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing or have an education equivalency for licensing.
  • Hold Basic Life Support HealthCare Provider certification from the American Heart Association.
  • Hold the required Registered Nurse license for the state of work location, or an applicable compact-state Registered Nurse license as specified.
  • Work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner.
  • Meet the listed physical requirements, including standing and walking, lifting and carrying objects, patient movement, communication, vision, hearing, and occasional driving.
Responsibilities
  • Provide direct nursing care in accordance with established policies, procedures, and protocols of the healthcare organization.
  • Use standards of medical-surgical nursing practice to systematically evaluate the quality and effectiveness of nursing practice and improve patient and family quality of life.
  • Establish effective relationships and serve as an advocate with the patient, family, and significant others to facilitate development of a patient-specific care plan.
  • Use the nursing process to develop and implement the plan of care, collect assessment data, determine nursing diagnoses, identify expected patient outcomes, implement interventions, and evaluate outcomes.
  • Develop assessment and management strategies considering the physical, functional, cultural, social, economic, developmental, spiritual, vocational, and leisure dimensions of human responses to actual and potential health problems.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the impact of actual or potential illness and each patient’s physical, functional, cultural, social, economic, developmental, spiritual, vocational, and leisure status.
  • Coordinate and collaborate with patients, families, significant others, communities, and members of the interprofessional team to assess needs, set goals, plan interventions, provide care, and evaluate outcomes.
  • Use effective communication to participate in collaborative decision-making with patients, families, significant others, and other healthcare providers in a culturally sensitive, ethical, legal, holistic, informed, compassionate, and humane manner within available economic resources.
  • Educate patients, families, and significant others about measures that promote, maintain, and restore health or promote comfort.
  • Foster a healthy work environment by serving as a mentor and role model for nursing colleagues, students, and others.
  • Apply evidence-based practice and scientific knowledge to medical-surgical nursing practice and deliver care based on patient age-specific and clinical needs.
  • Perform point-of-care testing according to policies and procedures when required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
