- Have worked in a mechanical setting; experience related to food manufacturing is preferred.
- Have knowledge of control programs, human-machine interfaces, indirect addressing and arrays, Allen Bradley, Rockwell Automation, RSLogix 500, and Studio 5000.
- Be able to troubleshoot controls and electrical systems using ammeters, voltmeters, tracers, and recording devices.
- Be able to read electrical schematics, electrical prints, wiring diagrams, and nameplates.
- Be able to troubleshoot variable frequency drive systems and controls.
- Be able to work on three-phase motors, inverters, and servos, and troubleshoot alternating-current and direct-current control circuit components.
- Be able to troubleshoot electrical circuits up to 480 volts.
- Be able to connect a laptop to troubleshoot and program programmable logic controllers and human-machine interfaces.
- Be able to program variable frequency drives.
- Be able to work overtime, weekends, holidays, and on-call as needed.
- Have a valid driver’s license and be insurable under the company’s insurance policy; the employee must drive to each of CW’s facilities.
- Provide a personal set of tools.
- Have a high school diploma.
- Have at least four years of experience as a Controls Technician, Controls Electrician, PLC Programmer, or in related field experience.
- Have experience working in a fast-paced manufacturing facility and troubleshooting industrial electrical and electronic systems.
- Attend all food safety training sessions, including Good Manufacturing Practices, Safe Quality Food, Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points, allergen, food facility security, and prevention of foodborne illness training.
- Participate in company Good Manufacturing Practices walks.
- Enforce company rules regarding food safety and monitoring.
- Be able to perform installation and troubleshooting work safely and efficiently in interior and exterior facilities.
- Have the dexterity to operate tools, bend at the waist, kneel, crouch, stand for extended periods, reach above the head, hear and speak to exchange information, see to perform skilled work and read meters or gauges, lift and carry heavy equipment or materials, work in cramped spaces, and use ladders, scaffolding, or a scissor lift.
- Troubleshoot, maintain, and improve programmable logic controller equipment and other automated systems.
- Work directly with the Maintenance and Engineering teams to troubleshoot and support production lines and modification requests.
- Use automation software to program and troubleshoot production equipment.
- Replace faulty machine electrical components, including relays, switches, motors, and sensors.
- Train members of the Maintenance team in basic electrical tasks.
- Plan and order materials for specific projects and tasks and maintain shop inventory.
- Model, implement, and comply with electrical safety rules and related industry regulations.
- Wire electrical panels from schematics, start up production equipment, and debug production equipment.
- Design and wire small control cabinets for conveyors and other equipment.
- Design and write programs that integrate conveyor systems with original equipment manufacturer equipment.
- Program human-machine interfaces for integration projects and modify existing human-machine-interface programs to improve their functionality.
- Assist with investigating root causes and developing repair solutions when major breakdowns occur.
- Work with Engineering and Maintenance to improve production equipment.
- Perform other duties assigned by management.
