Requirements

Responsibilities
  • Provide scientific staffing support for the Division of Intramural Research, National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases.
  • Run validation activities monthly.
  • Meet with laboratory members weekly to present updates.
  • Provide financial management support by assisting with DIR budget allocations of appropriated funds, including planning, supplemental reviews, initiatives, program changes, and end-of-year spending.
  • Contribute to the development of resource packages for new Principal Investigators.
  • Collaborate on translational research projects, including production of clinical lots for vaccine candidates and nonhuman primate studies.
  • Advise Principal Investigators and laboratory chiefs on biosafety and biosecurity for DIR campuses, including high-containment BSL-3 and ABSL-3 facilities and maximum-containment BSL-4 and ABSL-4 facilities.
  • Design and perform original immunological research.
  • Assist with resource-management changes involving money, staff, and space through the DIR LiveLink/Resource Tracking system, and coordinate space allocations for new projects, programs, and renovations.
  • Evaluate, test, and implement new processes, methodologies, and tools for complex immunological testing and research.
  • Work with OMIFM, IAMB, and AMOB senior management.
  • Provide scientific facilities management recommendations for NIAID DIR facilities and research operations.
  • Maintain an updated database of space quantity, type, and usage for DIR laboratories.
  • Document research findings and maintain accurate logs and records of experimental activities and outcomes.
  • Provide vaccine-development and other research support functions.
  • Provide subject-matter expertise to senior scientists and program executives.
  • Work with senior management of NIH DOHS, the Select Agent Program, the High Containment Task Force, NIH Police and Fire Departments, and contract security staff.
  • Provide advice and recommendations on biosafety and biosecurity issues, including CDC/USDA inspections, containment-building shutdowns and validations, and emergency events.
  • Assist NIAID DIR Principal Investigators with intellectual-property, technology-transfer, and licensing issues, focusing on vaccine development.
  • Prepare experimental findings for presentation and publication.
  • Perform regular site visits to NIAID facilities in Rockville and Frederick, Maryland, and Hamilton, Montana, at least once per year.
  • Assist with and contribute to the DIR Office of the Director strategic-planning process, assess new scientific initiatives, and advise on resource allocation.
