Requirements
  • Experience constructing electrical engineering systems including large scale power distribution/generation gear and mechanical engineering systems including cooling systems
  • Experience in construction management or construction program management of large, complex projects involving large-scale mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) plants
  • Experience in project control (cost or schedule, or both) and formulating construction programmes, especially for infrastructure and mission critical projects both on-site and in preconstruction environments
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or equivalent, or 10+ years of construction or project management experience
Responsibilities
  • Own project scope, quality, schedule, and budget for construction of new builds or general capital projects.
  • Own construction project management and oversight of construction related activities.
  • Work alongside partner teams such as Operations, Networking, Controls, Security, and Commissioning to build Data Centers that directly support our Customers.
  • Be a leader in your specific discipline (construction management, building services, architectural, electrical or mechanical engineering).
  • Represent Amazon’s owner’s representative on construction sites daily, as, interacting with construction trades.
  • Be Amazon’s construction representative on multiple data centers building and capital improvement construction project sites from construction start through hand-off to operations.
  • Direct interface with construction general contractors during the construction bidding, award, execution, punch-list, and closeout phases.
  • Create construction project scope and request for proposals.
  • Conduct negotiations with general contractors and evaluate bids and proposals with detail and accuracy.
  • Manage and drive cost, schedule, and quality while managing construction contractors and vendors.
  • Perform construction project management activities, including management of documents, submittals, RFIs, change orders, invoices, quality, scope, and schedule.
  • Drive construction teams to troubleshoot and perform root-cause failure analysis on equipment failures.
  • Support commissioning and integrated system testing and oversight.
  • Support operations of installed facilities, including review of procedures, best practices, and maintenance initiatives.
  • Support capital request creation.
  • Analyze and report construction progress and financials.
  • Record and report key construction metrics to team members and management.
  • Contribute to construction initiatives aimed at improving construction efficiency and increasing data center resiliency.
  • Provide constructability reviews for electrical and mechanical designs for new or optimization of existing data centers.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience delivering multi-media environmental due diligence, permitting, and compliance projects with specific expertise in CWA 404 and NPDES permitting, groundwater protection, wastewater discharge, and natural and cultural resource evaluations
  • Experience in Project Controls Standards subject matter, including Estimating, Cost Management, Cost Forecasting, Schedule Management, Progress Measurement, Change Management, Risk Management, WBS/CBS/SBS, Cash-Flow (VOWD), and Benchmarking
  • Experience in environmental compliance and permitting, waste management, contractual, regulatory, and liability assessments, environmental permit evaluations and applications, EIAs and water discharge requirements
  • Experience understanding electrical and mechanical systems involved in critical data center operations including systems such as feeders, transformers, generators, switch gear, UPS systems, ATS units, PDU units, chillers, pumps, or air handling units

Amazon adds free cloud gaming to Fire TV via PHYND's ad-supported service

Amazon's Texas data centre set to become America's biggest polluter with 33M tons CO2 yearly

Amazon is constructing a natural gas power plant in West Texas permitted to emit up to 33 million tonnes of CO2 annually, potentially double the output of America's current dirtiest power station. The facility will exclusively serve an adjacent Amazon Web Services AI data centre. Developed by Pacifico Energy with Amazon financing, the plant features 35 gas turbines and up to 7.65 gigawatts of capacity. The permitted emission ceiling of 33 million tonnes compares with roughly 16 million tonnes from Alabama's James H. Miller Jr. coal plant, currently the nation's highest emitter. Satellite imagery from July 2026 shows active land-clearing, with construction permits filed in August 2026. First power is targeted for Q1 2027. The facility will operate independently of Texas's ERCOT grid. Amazon's company-wide carbon emissions rose 16% last year, challenging its 2040 net-zero commitment.
