Requirements
  • At least three years of Critical Care or Emergency Department nursing experience at a Level 1 Trauma Center.
  • Graduation from an accredited Bachelor's Degree in Nursing or higher.
  • Current registration with the North Carolina State Board of Nursing as a registered professional nurse, or current compact registered nurse licensure to practice in North Carolina.
  • Current Basic Life Support certification or higher.
  • Advanced clinical decision-making skills for coordinating patient transfers and determining appropriate patient care needs.
Responsibilities
  • Coordinate safe and efficient patient movement within the Duke University Health System and surrounding regional healthcare systems.
  • Coordinate transfers between inpatient units, the Post-Anesthesia Care Unit, Emergency Department, and ambulatory clinics.
  • Work with referring agencies, hospitals, clinics, emergency departments, and internal and external customers to facilitate patient transfers.
  • Work alongside providers to identify patient needs and triage those needs based on acuity.
  • Ensure patients are relocated in accordance with their care needs.
  • Provide 24/7 transfer-center coverage and support the transfer needs of patients.
Desired Qualifications
  • Knowledge of Duke Health System hospitals and patient care units.
  • Direct experience working in an Emergency Department, Critical Care environment, or Transfer Center at a Level 1 Trauma Center.
