Ubisoft Q1 net bookings at $289M, new Assassin's Creed sells 3.5M copies in 14 days

Ubisoft reported first-quarter net bookings of €256 million for fiscal year 2026-27, down 9% year-on-year but slightly above guidance. The decline reflects a high comparison base from Assassin's Creed Shadows' March 2025 release. The quarter saw record performance from Invincible: Guarding the Globe, whilst Rainbow Six Siege performed in line with expectations. Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced launched in July, achieving an 84 rating on OpenCritic and Metacritic. The game sold 3.5 million copies within its first 14 days, exceeding annual expectations. Ubisoft appointed industry veteran Christoph Hartmann as general manager of Creative House 2. The company closed its Winnipeg and Belgrade studios, made targeted changes to global publishing, and restructured its Barcelona studio. The company confirmed its fiscal year 2026-27 and mid-term outlook.

Ubisoft has appointed former Amazon Games chief Christoph Hartmann as general manager of Creative House 2, overseeing franchises including "Tom Clancy's The Division", "Ghost Recon" and "Splinter Cell". The division will also include "March of Giants", which Ubisoft acquired from Amazon in December. Hartmann brings over 20 years of industry experience. Prior to Amazon, he spent two decades at Take-Two Interactive, co-founding 2K Games and leading development of franchises including "Borderlands", "BioShock" and "NBA 2K". Ubisoft closes Winnipeg and Belgrade studios, cutting 380 jobs in restructuring

Ubisoft is closing two studios, Winnipeg and Belgrade, as part of ongoing restructuring that has cut approximately 380 jobs. Ubisoft Winnipeg, opened in 2018 with around 100 employees, worked on the company's Anvil and Snowdrop engines and contributed to titles including Ghost Recon Wildlands and Skull and Bones. The Belgrade studio, established a decade ago, supported projects from Steep to Skull and Bones. The closures follow extensive cuts across Ubisoft's Global Publishing division. The company's workforce has shrunk from over 20,000 employees in 2023 to approximately 15,000. This year alone, Ubisoft has shuttered studios in Halifax and Stockholm, reduced staff at Red Storm Entertainment, and cancelled six games including the Prince of Persia: Sands of Time remake.

Ubisoft reports $1.7B net bookings down 17% amid restructuring, cuts 1,200 jobs and $132M in costs

Ubisoft Entertainment reported full-year net bookings of €1.525 billion, down 17% year-on-year, primarily due to a softer new release schedule. Non-IFRS EBIT reached €1.040 billion, meeting guidance, while free cash flow consumption was €443 million, within the target range. The gaming company reduced its fixed cost base by €118 million and headcount by approximately 1,200 employees to 16,590. Net debt improved to €187 million from €885 million a year earlier, with cash holdings of around €1.35 billion. For fiscal 2027, Ubisoft expects single-digit percentage decline in net bookings and high single-digit negative operating margin. The company discontinued seven projects and delayed six others whilst leveraging AI to enhance game development efficiency.
