Lucid's executive exodus signals crisis while Rivian's CFO transition marks natural evolution

Rivian's CFO Claire McDonough is stepping down after nearly six years to join GE Vernova, whilst Lucid faces a broader executive exodus. McDonough helped steer Rivian through its $13.7 billion IPO and develop strategic partnerships, including a joint venture with Volkswagen. She will remain to ensure a smooth transition. In contrast, Lucid has seen sweeping changes under new CEO Silvio Napoli. Founder Peter Rawlinson resigned abruptly in early 2025, and the company has replaced nearly its entire executive suite. Lucid has also delayed its affordable Cosmos model, pulled production guidance, and hired restructuring firm AlixPartners. Rivian's single departure appears to be an evolution in leadership, whilst Lucid's multiple exits signal deeper operational challenges.

10 cars their owners would buy again in a heartbeat.

10 cars their owners would buy again in a heartbeat. John Tallodi Sat, September 5, 2026 at 3:01 PM PDT Autoblog and Yahoo may earn commission from links in this article. Does your car make you smile every time you drive it? Do you look back at it when you park it in the garage? These subjective measurements of owner satisfaction vary between individuals and are based on personal preferences. That bare-bones two-seater sports car may have a special place in your heart, but it wouldn't get a second look from someone who prefers to waft along in silent luxury. Consumer Reports attempts to quantify this by conducting an annual Owner Satisfaction Survey, and while the final scores include measurable aspects like performance, ride comfort, and ownership costs, they also include the subjective side by getting feedback from owners with real-world experience of these vehicles. In its latest survey, Consumer Reports rated 26 brands to see which ones came out on top, and for 2026, Rivian, BMW, Subaru, Tesla and Ford placed in the top five spots. But there were specific models from across the board that outperformed their stablemates, and Incite D dug into the data to unearth which ones made their owners the happiest of all. Note: Incite D use Consumer Reports as a trusted source because it relies on feedback from actual owners with real-world experience, and conducts its own independent testing procedures which provide an unbiased set of results not influenced by advertisers or manufacturers. The Owner Satisfaction score indicates how likely an owner is to buy the same car again. Which vehicles are the most satisfying to own? View the 3 images of this gallery on the original article | Make and Model | Owner Satisfaction Score | | Rivian R1T | 91% | | Chevrolet Corvette | 88% | | Land Rover Defender | 88% | | Porsche 911 | 85% | | Tesla Model Y | 82% | | BMW i5 | 81% | | Mini Cooper | 81% | | Kia Carnival Hybrid | 80% | | BMW X5 | 80% | | Cadillac Optiq | 80% | Owner satisfaction comprises several factors and as the data shows, logic does not always play a starring role in the decision-making process. Some of its best performers aren't even from the brands that made the top 10 list, while others are so dismally unreliable that arriving at your destination is a bonus not a guarantee. Yet, based on a variety of assessments and owner feedback, they all performed above and beyond their owner's expectations and these are the ones that would seriously consider buying the same car again. 3rd place: Land Rover Defender 88%. With a road test score of a middling 60/100 and a predicted reliability score of a scary 30/100, the Land Rover Defender was also rated low on braking, agility, fuel economy and rearward visibility. Clearly none of this bothers its owners, as its impressive off-road ability, acceleration and interior practicality shot it to third place overall in the owner satisfaction rankings. Value-for-money was the one area where some owners felt they weren't getting as much as they expected. As a brand, Land Rover is hopelessly unreliable, and the most expensive to maintain, yet the fact that 'character' was one of the high points for the Defender shows that at a certain level, none of the things that bother most commuters applies anymore. 2nd place: Chevrolet Corvette 88%. The C8 range took the value-for-money formula that Corvette has always majored in, and applied it to a new mid-engined platform. It is hard to imagine any rival that offers more performance for the money, and the latest models challenge supercars in outright pace. It's no surprise then that the 2026 corvette scored a 97/100 in the Road Test segment, and it got a decent 68/100 for Predicted Reliability, too. Owners rated it highly in most segments, aside from value. There really is no pleasing some people. It may have poor fuel economy, be difficult to get into and out of, and offer minimal rearward visibility, but none of these matter when every model in the range overdelivers where it counts in a sports car: performance. 1st place: Rivian R1T 91%. Ford, Chevy and Ram may have the majority of the full-size truck segment all to themselves, but a relative newcomer beats them all when it comes to customer satisfaction. The Rivian R1T truck is 50% rocket ship, 50% workhorse, and 50% luxury vehicle. That adds up to 150%, and that's because the R1T over delivers everywhere except when it comes to reliability. Its 18/100 result is close to the worst score recorded of any vehicle tested, thankfully most are still covered by the factory warranty. But owners didn't care about electrical glitches, or wayward drivetrains and only marked it down for its massive base price, rating it close to perfect on the driving experience, comfort and styling metrics. The final 91/100 owner satisfaction score is the highest of any vehicle for 2026. See, logic has very little to do with what makes owners love or hate their cars. Clearly a vehicle's character still has a big impact on enjoyment, even when it comes to EVs. Tesla's Cybercab sparks fan frenzy in Austin.

Tesla's Cybercab sparks fan frenzy in Austin. Fans chase golden, driverless vehicle ahead of launch event Updated 2026.09.03. 17:35 On the 2nd (local time), on a road in Austin, Texas, U.S. People holding mobile phones and cameras were taking photos of a golden vehicle at various spots. It was the "Cybercab" model developed by Tesla for its robotaxi (driverless taxi) service. Ahead of the official launch event held there on the 3rd, Tesla fans and influencers flocked to the area, and a sort of "Cybercab hunting" broke out, with people taking photos and videos whenever they spotted a Cybercab. The Cybercab is a two-seater electric vehicle designed exclusively for robotaxis. It has no steering wheel, accelerator, or brake pedal. Its golden exterior, lack of a rear window, and "butterfly doors" that lift upward make it stand out from a distance. Technologically, unlike Waymo, which uses cameras, lidar, and radar together, Tesla sticks to its camera-centric autonomous driving approach. Until now, Tesla had deployed its "Model Y" for robotaxi services but has now developed a dedicated vehicle for the first time. Social media platforms like X (X) have been flooded with posts and videos from "Cybercab hunters" claiming, "I saw a Cybercab in Austin." Videos captured by fans show Cybercabs exiting Tesla's "Giga Texas" factory on their own, driving on Texas roads without a driver, and multiple units traveling in a line. One user posted a photo of Waymo and Tesla Robotaxi together, writing, "Waymo is now finished." Another user uploaded a video of a Tesla car door opening, saying, "Austin is literally a futuristic city right now." The high interest in the Cybercab stems not only from Tesla's strong fandom but also from curiosity about a "car without a steering wheel or pedals." Until now, most robotaxis were based on existing passenger vehicles like the Model Y (Tesla) or Jaguar I-Pace (Waymo), with autonomous driving technology added. With AI taking over driving, the very form of automobiles is changing. The robotaxi industry is growing rapidly. Waymo, the market leader, expanded its fully autonomous service to 14 U.S. cities this month, including Denver, San Diego, and Tampa. It is also deploying a new model, the "Ojai," developed exclusively for robotaxi services, while increasing both its vehicle fleet and service areas. Zoox, Amazon's autonomous driving subsidiary, began paid robotaxi services in Las Vegas last month. Electric vehicle maker Rivian is also collaborating with Uber to develop a robotaxi service. · This article has been translated by Upstage Solar AI. 원문보기 (View Original Korean Article) Editor's Pick

New Jersey family pits $15,000-cheaper Chevy Equinox EV against Rivian R2 on 500-mile road trip.

New Jersey family pits $15,000-cheaper Chevy Equinox EV against Rivian R2 on 500-mile road trip. Vivian Tran Wed, September 2, 2026 at 4:00 PM PDT To compare two very different approaches to EV value, a New Jersey family took both on the same 500-mile round trip between New Jersey and Vermont. The matchup paired Rivian's new R2 against a Chevy Equinox EV 2RS priced roughly $15,000 lower. Here's what to know. A video from EVenture Family (@Eventurefamily) followed a Rivian R2 Catalina Cove Launch Edition and a Chevy Equinox EV 2RS over almost the same highway loop. Both started fully charged, and each vehicle ran on 21-inch wheels. Rather than making it a flat-out race, the couple used the drive to look at the issues families tend to care about on longer EV trips: highway energy use, charging stops, navigation and planning, and overall comfort. Despite the large price gap, the creator said he expected both SUVs to end up "probably right around 3 miles per kilowatt-hour." EPA ratings make the range comparison look straightforward, but the drive suggested the answer is messier in practice. The all-wheel-drive Equinox EV is rated at 285 miles, while the R2 carries a 330-mile EPA estimate, though the creator said of the Rivian, "nobody's getting that." Charging specs also didn't tell the whole story on this route. The Equinox can top out at about 150 kilowatts, and the R2 is capable of higher rates, but the available stations did not include the hardware Rivian needs to reach its best numbers, so both SUVs mostly ended up using Tesla Superchargers. More background. When the Equinox arrived at a Tesla Supercharger in Bennington, Vermont, it still had about 25% battery left, which was better than predicted. A charger error appeared after about five minutes at one stall, so the driver moved to another unit, and the session then continued normally until charging began tapering near 70%. One commenter wrote, "Efficiency without compromise is my gold standard to assess real advancement in this space." What can be done? How long an EV trip really takes depends on more than the window sticker, including speed, weather, wheel choice, charger access, and whether the route lets the vehicle use its fastest charging capability. The test also underscored how competitive cheaper EVs have become. The Rivian offers a newer design and a more premium cabin, but the Equinox still looked like a credible road-trip choice because of its strong efficiency and lower purchase price. One commenter put it this way: "Really conflicted. Don't need another crossover/small suv thing in my stable, but the R2 clearly is the better vehicle... is it $30k better?... ehhhh... EQ is absolutely 100% a great value and a good car, but it's looking like it will be getting replaced shortly because I make bad decisions." The Vermont run showed how quickly EV value turns into a real-world question of price, charging access, and everyday efficiency - not just EPA range. The coverage here digs into those same tradeoffs, from Rivian's push to win over more buyers to the cost and range questions that can sway a family toward a premium model or a cheaper one. Each one adds a little more context to the question hanging over this road-trip test: how much extra capability is really worth paying for. That calculation gets tougher as lower-cost EVs keep getting better. Get TCD's free newsletters for easy tips, smart advice, and a chance to earn $5,000 toward home upgrades.
