Carvana CEO warns rising fuel costs cut $75 from profit per vehicle despite record $769M EBITDA

Carvana reported record sales and operating income in Q2 2026, selling almost 200,000 cars and posting net income of $513 million. Revenue jumped 52% to $7.4 billion, whilst adjusted EBITDA reached a record $769 million. However, CEO Ernie Garcia warned that rising fuel costs reduced profit per vehicle by approximately $75. The company's nationwide delivery model makes it particularly vulnerable to fuel price increases, which raised inbound transport and delivery expenses. Garcia also noted that Carvana passed back over 100 basis points of interest rate savings to customers during the quarter, which reduced per-vehicle profit by roughly $500. Despite these pressures, profit per unit only fell by around $200 due to operational improvements elsewhere in the business.
