Requirements
  • An Associate Degree in a technical discipline or equivalent technical experience is required.
  • At least 2 years of experience in substation, power delivery, or electrical design is required.
  • Proficiency with computer-aided design software, specifically AutoCAD and/or MicroStation, is required.
  • Familiarity with substation physical design, including layouts, grounding using IEEE Standard 80, conduit and cable routing, and equipment placement, is required.
  • Working knowledge of IEEE, ANSI, NEC, and NESC standards is required.
  • Ability to travel to project and substation sites, including sites not accessible by public transportation, is required.
  • The ability to access outdoor substation yards and walk uneven terrain, with or without reasonable accommodation, is required.
  • Appropriate personal protective equipment must be worn on site, including arc-rated clothing.
Responsibilities
  • Develop and revise physical layouts, elevation and section views, below-grade drawings, and supporting documentation in computer-aided design software, progressing toward independent work.
  • Lay out grounding systems, conduit and cable routing, bus arrangements, and equipment placement.
  • Build and maintain cable and conduit lists, nameplates, and client-specific documentation.
  • Assist the project lead in developing physical documentation and apply technical design standards.
  • Apply internal and external processes, procedures, and design standards, including IEEE, ANSI, NEC, and NESC.
  • Coordinate with drafters, designers, other disciplines, clients, and vendors to deliver complete, constructible packages.
  • Visit substation and construction sites periodically.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience with Inventor or Substation Design Suite.
  • Experience with grounding or photometric analysis software such as WinIGS, CDEGS, AGi32, Visual Lighting, or equivalent.
  • Engineer-in-Training certification, with progress toward Professional Engineer licensure.
