Requirements
  • Graduate of an approved nursing program.
  • One year of acute care experience is preferred.
  • Current California Registered Nurse license.
  • Basic Life Support certification.
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support certification.
  • Proficiency in both written and oral English.
Responsibilities
  • Provide safe and effective perioperative care to operating-room patients.
  • Perform nursing histories and physical assessments upon admission and on an ongoing basis.
  • Collect and document patient data, symptoms, assessment information, and patient or family teaching needs.
  • Develop individualized patient care plans with patients and families.
  • Identify goals, document problems requiring intervention, and perform discharge planning and referrals.
  • Communicate plans of care and diagnostic data through shift reports.
  • Provide direct nursing care based on patient needs and established priorities.
  • Implement delegated medical care plans and follow care plans established by other health-team members.
  • Delegate and guide appropriate aspects of care based on patient acuity and individual needs.
  • Coordinate the activities of other health-team disciplines to implement patient care plans.
  • Evaluate and document patient and family responses to nursing interventions and the effectiveness of care plans.
  • Revise care plans and goals according to changing patient needs.
  • Interact with patients, families, physicians, visitors, and other departments to support quality care and resolve problems.
  • Maintain a quiet and therapeutic patient-care environment and respond promptly to patient needs and call lights.
  • Follow hospital, department, safety, infection-control, confidentiality, attendance, and timekeeping policies.
  • Participate in staff meetings and communicate equipment, supply, and procedure problems to the supervisor.
  • Complete assigned work within the shift and perform additional duties as needed.
  • Use established systems to document occurrences and improve unit-specific and hospital-wide system problems.
  • Complete required annual updates, ethics training, orientation, and in-service programs.
  • Maintain appropriate licensure and certification.
  • Demonstrate age-specific knowledge and provide treatment and assessment appropriate to newborn, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.
  • Perform operating-room competencies including phacoemulsification, malignant hyperthermia response, laser safety, cell-saver setup, biological monitoring, and lithotripsy.
