Safe fueling advocate Keith Clark receives prestigious Flight Safety Foundation award. May 4, 2026 Keith Clark, senior quality control and technical representative at Phillips 66 Aviation, will receive the Flight Safety Foundation's (FSF's) 2026 Business Aviation Meritorious Service Award at the 2026 FSF Business Aviation Safety Summit (BASS). BASS is set for May 5-6 in Provo, UT. Clark is the creator of the "Save a Life - Verify Fuel Type" initiative, which emphasizes deliberate fuel-type verification, communication and human factor awareness at every stage of the fueling process. He joined Phillips 66 Aviation more than 40 years ago and has dedicated much of his career to fuel quality and safety. He also is an active participant in several aviation industry working groups focused on practical guidance and operational best practices to reduce risk and elevate safety. The Phillips 66 Aviation "Save a Life" program is not solely focused on FBOs, but encourages pilots, and everyone in the business aviation industry, to take a moment and verify fuel type before every flight. Free stickers are available from Phillips 66 Aviation at [email protected]. "The phrase 'Save a Life - Verify Fuel Type' is intentionally simple, because safety does not need to be complicated, it needs to be taken seriously, every time by everybody," said Clark. "BASS represents an industry committed to learning, accountability and speaking up, recognizing that these safety actions truly save lives and can make a difference. I am honored to be recognized by an organization that so clearly embodies those values." Phillips 66 Aviation is focused on safety and one of the largest aviation refiners in the United States and a major supplier to general aviation, as well as commercial and military aviation. The company is a member of the NBAA Leadership Council, which is made up of individuals and businesses dedicated to strengthening the association in support of its mission to promote an environment that fosters business aviation in the U.S. and around the world. "Keith's commitment to misfueling prevention and operational safety has made a lasting impact on business aviation," said Doug Carr, NBAA senior vice president of safety, security, sustainability and international operations. "This recognition is a testament to the critical role his work plays in protecting lives and advancing the highest standards of our industry." The FSF Business Aviation Meritorious Service award recognizes outstanding service and contributions to business aviation safety. Other recent recipients include Charlie Precourt, Citation Jet Pilots; D. Richard Meikle, FlightSafety International; Robert Agostino, Group Holdings Aviation; and Bryan Burns and Russ Lawton, Air Charter Safety Foundation. The theme of BASS 2026 is "Leading Safety Through Culture, Innovation and Practical Solutions." The event is organized by Flight Safety Foundation in partnership with NBAA and the National Air Transportation Association (NATA). NBAA Director of Safety and Flight Operations Mark Larsen is taking part in a May 6 panel: "Ask the Industry Experts: Advancing Safety from Policy to Practice and Your Questions Answered." Kristi Ivey, NBAA regional director, will be on hand to speak with attendees about the association's many safety resources and upcoming events focused on safe operations.
Phillips 66 beats Q1 estimates by $0.88 per share as refining margins surge. By Alex Kimani - Apr 29, 2026, 10:30 AM CDT In an earnings season highlighted by a Middle East conflict that has sent oil prices soaring, Texas oil refiner Phillips 66 (NYSE:PSX) has reported first quarter adjusted earnings of $0.49 per share, easily beating Wall Street's consensus of a loss of $0.39 while net income came in at $207 million thanks to higher refining margins amid the big oil price rally. The giant refiner reported that it has formally increased its Sweeny NGL fractionation capacity by 23% and its Freeport LPG export dock capacity by 15% mainly through debottlenecking projects completed in 2025 to optimize the company's Gulf Coast NGL value chain. "We are confident in our ability to navigate market volatility due to our integrated business and the strength of our balance sheet. Backed by disciplined execution and strong operating performance, we remain well positioned to provide energy to the global market," said Mark Lashier, chairman and CEO of Phillips 66. The Sweeny fractionation increase follows record fractionation volumes achieved throughout 2025. The Sweeny Hub previously operated four fractionators with a combined capacity of 550,000 bpd. Meanwhile, expansion at the company's Freeport Export Dock will boost its ability to meet international LPG demand. Phillips 66 has several key projects in the pipeline. The Coastal Bend NGL pipeline (formerly EPIC NGL) expansion is expected to increase capacity from 225,000 barrels per day to 350,000 bpd, with completion expected in the fourth quarter of 2026. This project connects Permian and Eagle Ford basin production to Gulf Coast fractionation, including the Sweeny Hub. Phillips 66 is also moving ahead with a proposed 100,000 bpd Natural Gas Liquids (NGL) fractionator in Corpus Christi, Texas, with a final investment decision (FID) anticipated in early 2026 and project completion targeted for 2028. Meanwhile, the Phillips 66 and Kinder Morgan Western Gateway Pipeline project aims to transport up to 200,000 bpd of refined products (gasoline, diesel, jet fuel) to Arizona and California by mid-2029. Last week, Phillips 66 became the first company to use Washington's temporary Jones Act waiver to move domestic crude on a foreign-flagged tanker, shipping Bakken crude from Beaumont, Texas to the Trainer refinery in Pennsylvania owned by Delta Air Lines subsidiary Monroe Energy. California Governor Gavin Newsom is advancing a plan to subsidise green jet fuel production by diverting funds constitutionally designated for road repairs. The proposal would grant tax credits worth $1 to $2 per gallon to sustainable aviation fuel producers, costing between $165 million and $300 million annually. Phillips 66, which converted its Rodeo refinery to biofuels at a cost of $1.25 billion, would be the primary beneficiary. The company's renewable fuels segment lost $380 million in 2025. UC Berkeley economists warn the programme could raise petrol prices by 10 to 15 cents per gallon and reduce emissions at a cost of $1,000 to $2,700 per tonne — more than 10 times what economists consider cost-effective. California's Legislative Analyst's Office has urged lawmakers to reject the proposal, citing concerns about draining road maintenance funds and potentially higher-than-projected costs.
Phillips 66 disclosed it will book approximately $900 million in pre-tax mark-to-market losses in its first quarter results after taking a short position in derivatives contracts. The Houston-based refiner faced a net outflow of roughly $3 billion in cash collateral on derivative positions as commodity prices surged sharply during the quarter. To manage the impact, Phillips 66 drew on credit lines, issued a new $2.25 billion 364-day term loan and increased its accounts receivables securitisation facility from $1.25 billion to $1.75 billion. As of March, the company's net short position in crude and oil products stood at about 50 million barrels. The losses come as Brent crude prices remained above $95 per barrel, the highest since September 2023, driven by Middle East tensions.
