Requirements
  • Demonstrated experience leading a team in a fast-paced daily multi-platform news environment.
  • Excellent journalistic and critical thinking skills, including knowledge of CBC’s Journalistic Standards and Practices and the legal and ethical issues related to journalism.
  • Ability to manage and organize large volumes of fast-moving information and redirect resources to meet priorities and objectives.
  • Knowledge of and experience in assigning and creating content for video, digital, social, radio, television, and streaming platforms, as well as vetting, editing, fact-checking, and packaging.
  • Superior communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • A strategic approach with a proven track record of executing on a vision.
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise quick editorial judgment and long-term planning.
  • Experience developing content strategies that feature new voices and perspectives and connect with new, younger, and more diverse audiences.
  • A strong connection to the communities served in Saskatchewan and a nuanced understanding and appreciation of diverse perspectives and lived experiences.
  • Strong people-management skills and a commitment to promoting diversity and an inclusive, respectful work culture.

  • Possession of a valid driver’s licence and a driving record meeting CBC/Radio-Canada’s insurance requirements.
  • A university degree in journalism or equivalent, with a minimum of seven years of journalism experience.

Responsibilities
  • Organize and lead news coverage across video, digital, social, radio, television, and streaming platforms, including setting story priorities and rollouts, allocating resources, assigning staff, and providing editorial oversight.
  • Oversee story development, including assigning, researching, gathering, writing, copy editing, vetting, packaging, and creating push alerts.
  • Oversee distribution of content across multiple platforms.
  • Ensure assignments and content choices resonate with Saskatchewan residents and align with CBC’s strategic audience objectives.
  • Oversee and collaborate with producers on the assignment desk to ensure continuity of news coverage.
  • Coordinate and collaborate on story assignments with digital, visual, current-affairs radio, weekend Radio-Canada, other-location, and program-unit producers.
  • Provide feedback and coaching to journalists to develop their skills and improve content quality.
  • Help lead newsroom-wide coverage planning for special projects and events.
  • Help oversee staffing and scheduling decisions.
