Waste Connections exceeds revenue expectations in Q2. The North American waste services firm has reported better than expected results in this year's second quarter and improved its fiscal outlook for the rest of the year. Published July 22, 2026 | Updated July 23, 2026 Toronto-based Waste Connections Inc., which offers waste and recycling services throughout the United States and Canada, has cited improving recycled commodity prices and its ongoing acquisition activity as contributors to its profitable second quarter and improved outlook for the remainder of 2026. For the April through June 2026 time period, Waste Connections has reported revenue of more than $2.56 billion (in U.S. dollars), which it calls above expectations and marking a 6.4 percent increase in revenue year on year. Waste Connections has reported adjusted net income of more than $290 million, or $1.12 per share. In part because of a $99 million tax revision, the net income figure is 2 percent lower compared with the second quarter of 2025. "We are extremely pleased to deliver results above expectations, led primarily by strong operational execution driving a top-to-bottom beat in the second quarter," says Ronald J. Mittelstaedt, president and CEO of the company. Mittelstaedt says the firm's adjusted EBITDA margin expanded to 32.8 percent on 70 basis points of underlying margin expansion during this year's second quarter, "overcoming cost pressures primarily from rapidly spiking fuel and related costs, as well as ongoing drags from [what had been] comparatively lower commodity values." Waste Connections divides its operations into five revenue generating business units: waste collection; waste disposal and transfer; recycling; its oil and gas sector exploration and production (E&P) activities; and a mixed "intermodal and other" category. The second quarter of 2026, the roughly $64 million of revenue generated by recycling was at the lower end of its business units, along with $63 in revenue in the "intermodal and other" unit. By far the most revenue, at $1.79 billion, was earned by waste collection. Concerning the second half of 2026, the CEO says, "Recent commodity values and ongoing fuel cost recovery, plus contributions from acquisitions closed to date, position us to increase our full year outlook to revenue of $10.02 billion to $10.05 billion and adjusted EBITDA of $3.33 billion to $3.34 billion." Waste management firm buys Miami-Dade trucking terminal for $51M. July 8, 2026 Waste Connections has expanded its South Florida footprint with the acquisition of a 12-acre trucking terminal in Miami Gardens for $51 million. The property, located at 17707 Northwest Miami Court, was purchased from CenterPoint Properties and is strategically positioned along Interstate 95 just north of its interchange with Florida's Turnpike, providing convenient access to major regional transportation corridors. The site is designed to support large-scale fleet operations, featuring approximately 370 truck parking spaces and a 3,786-square-foot support building. The acquisition aligns with Waste Connections' operational needs as the company continues to invest in infrastructure that supports waste collection, transportation, and logistics in one of the nation's fastest-growing metropolitan areas. For CenterPoint Properties, the sale represents a successful disposition of an industrial outdoor storage asset. The company acquired the terminal in 2022 for $47.5 million and sold it for $51 million, realizing a modest gain while continuing its strategy of capitalizing on strong investor demand for well-located logistics facilities. The transaction follows another recent trucking terminal sale by CenterPoint in Miami-Dade County, underscoring the sustained interest in industrial outdoor storage properties across South Florida. Waste Connections to build PFAS treatment plant in North Carolina. The foam fractionation system will be co-located at the Anson Landfill. Waste Connections wants to be "proactive" in a region where PFAS contamination from other industries is a source of tension. Published July 7, 2026 Dive brief: * Waste Connections plans to build a "treatment facility for per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances at its Anson Landfill in Polkton, North Carolina. The system is expected to come online by the end of 2026. * The on-site foam fractionation system, built by The Water & Carbon Group, aims to treat up to 50,000 gallons per day of landfill leachate. Waste Connections has already installed a similar system from that company at its Bethlehem Landfill in Pennsylvania. * Waste Connections sees its PFAS remediation plans as a "proactive" way to responsibly manage landfills. North Carolina state regulators are taking "a more active approach" to monitoring PFAS at landfills compared to some other states, said Matt Crockett, regional engineering manager for Waste Connections' eastern region, in an interview. Dive insight: PFAS management efforts are especially timely in North Carolina, where the state's Department of Environmental Quality has required most solid waste landfills to conduct regular PFAS analyses of groundwater, surface water and leachate samples since 2023. North Carolina has also made headlines in recent years over broader PFAS contamination concerns. Residents have long spoken out against industrial PFAS pollution in the Cape Fear River Basin and the surrounding region, particularly from companies like Chemours. That company in June settled a multimillion dollar federal lawsuit over PFAS contamination issues and agreed to enact PFAS mitigation plans. North Carolina also recently proposed a rule that could require certain wastewater treatment plants and industrial facilities to monitor PFAS discharges and use monitoring data to make their own PFAS reduction plans. Crockett said the Anson Landfill PFAS remediation project aims to respond not just to PFAS concerns in the region, but to broader PFAS regulations taking shape across the country. Waste companies continue to invest in remediation technologies to capture per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances, even amid uncertainty over how state and federal PFAS regulations could affect operations, costs and remediation business opportunities. For the last few years, the waste industry, along with related industries such as water treatment facilities, have also sought an exemption from certain PFAS liabilities under the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act, or CERCLA. Industry groups say they are "passive receivers" of PFAS, meaning they do not generate PFAS or have control over PFAS-containing items that enter their facilities. These groups worry they will face lawsuits or high cleanup costs for receiving or handling PFAS-containing items. The National Waste & Recycling Association is a petitioner in an ongoing lawsuit over the issue. Tyler Fitzgerald, district manager at Anson Landfill, says the landfill is one of those passive receivers. "Waste Connections does not generate or use PFAS, but we are in a position to help reduce its impact on our communities," he said in a statement. "Installing treatment at our site gives us local control over how PFAS is handled, reduces the burden on downstream infrastructure and aligns our operations with evolving regulations." Crockett said foam fractionation is an ideal system for the Anson Landfill, in part because the technology has already been field-tested at Waste Connections' Bethlehem landfill and has yielded good results. Foam fractionation uses tiny air bubbles to separate and concentrate PFAS compounds from wastewater. The PFAS captured from the foamate is then solidified with a clay-like material and placed back in the landfill, taking up very little space, Crockett added. He estimates operating costs to be between 2 to 5 cents a gallon. "It's a simple process that can be scaled as big as you need it," he said. "Later on, depending on whatever new regulations or limits come out, if we have to look at some other sort of technology, we can. It's easy to pull on another system if we needed to." Waste Connections is also considering adding a foam fractionation system to its Seneca Meadows landfill in New York, which already has a reverse osmosis system, another common PFAS mitigation system. The company has submitted a permit application for a 200,000 gallon-per-day unit there, he said. Waste Connections says some wastewater treatment plants aren't designed to remove PFAS on their own. Crockett said he sees the new Anson Landfill PFAS system as a way to maintain good relationships with water treatment facilities it works with in the region. Waste Connections also represents a major revenue stream for local wastewater treatment plants, and at the same time, sludge from those plants gets returned to Waste Connections' landfills, Crockett said. "We're all interconnected."

Once operational, the system will treat landfill leachate on-site, reducing PFAS levels in leachate from entering downstream wastewater treatment facilities and supporting long-term PFAS management across the state, according to Waste Connections. Landfill leachate - the liquid resulting from precipitation as waste breaks down in a landfill - can contain PFAS. Waste Connections says Anson Landfill is a passive receiver of PFAS, which enter the waste stream through everyday consumer products such as packaging, textiles, cosmetics, cookware and cleaning agents. Anson Landfill does not manufacture or use PFAS, the company says. "Waste Connections does not generate or use PFAS, but we are in a position to help reduce its impact on our communities," says Tyler Fitzgerald, district manager at Anson Landfill. "Installing treatment at our site gives us local control over how PFAS is handled, reduces the burden on downstream infrastructure and aligns our operations with evolving regulations." Waste Connections has partnered with The Water & Carbon Group, Fort Lee, New Jersey, to deploy the LEEF System, a PFAS treatment technology designed for operating conditions at landfills. According to the company, the Anson Landfill installation will treat all leachate generated at the facility, up to 50,000 gallons per day, while supporting regional treatment capacity over time. The system is expected to be online by the end of this year. The group says its LEEF System removes PFAS using foam fractionation, a process in which fine air bubbles separate and concentrate PFAS compounds from wastewater. It is a chemical-free, low-energy treatment approach that targets both long-chain and short-chain PFAS compounds and has demonstrated reliable removal performance across changing site conditions, including variations in flow, temperature and landfill composition. The Anson Landfill project builds on Waste Connections' experience with PFAS treatment solutions. For more than two years, the company says its full-scale LEEF System has been operating at Bethlehem Landfill in Pennsylvania, delivering consistent PFAS removal across seasonal temperature changes and variable flow conditions. That operating experience informed the design of the system at Anson Landfill, which will provide PFAS treatment capacity to meet future regional needs and support PFAS-impacted leachate.
