When you come across something that just isn’t quite right, do ideas invade your thoughts, do you try and solve the problem, do you turn those ideas into prototypes, do you test yourself and your assumptions about what is right, including your shiny new ideas?  Do you dream up ways you can improve the things you use every day around the house?

SharkNinja is looking for innovative and highly-motivated Mechanical/ Design Engineers who have a passion for developing new product concepts to join the Advanced Development group.  The SharkNinja Advanced Development team will be responsible for developing new product concepts for the Shark brand, which currently includes (but is not limited to) vacuum cleaners, robot, steam mops, hard floor care products, and garment care products.  You will work as an individual contributor or as a team leader to understand customer needs, develop a clear product vision, and turn that vision into something tangible. 

Responsibilities:

• Apply Design Thinking to identify, test, and provide solutions to real consumer problems, and translate these into Advanced Development projects
• Design and build prototypes for internal review, testing, and consumer validation
• Challenge assumptions and think innovatively to solve complex problems creatively
• Hold cross-functional brainstorming sessions and encourage out-of-the-box thinking
• Work as individual contributor or as a team leader on multiple projects of varying size, scope, and complexity.  Respond quickly to shifting priorities without losing sight of longer range projects and goals
• Participate in peer design reviews.  Think critically about new product concepts, and ask the kinds of questions that help make them better
• Collaborate with R&D team to bring new technologies into Shark’s next generation products, and to initiate the exploration of new technologies
• Work closely with team members based in China to transfer design intent and get early manufacturing feedback on new product concepts
• Interpret data/test results and develop action plans
• Champion product concepts that are ready to be Shark’s next products, which includes selling new product concepts to SharkNinja’s executive team
• Transition concepts from Advanced Development to the New Product Development and Implementation team
• Expand, develop, and refine the Advanced Development team’s strategies and processes

Qualifications:

• BS in Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Technology, or relevant exp
• 2-4 years of experience working on user-centered innovation projects
• Desire to work in the undefined front-end on product development projects
• Proven track record of creating and implementing robust, elegant, and innovative solutions to complex problems
• Intuition on what consumers want and what works in the marketplace
• Willingness to fail fast and fail often to succeed sooner when exploring early product concepts
• Open to pursuing multiple paths to get to the best solution, and not being too proud of your own ideas to listen to others or try out alternate ideas
• High level of CAD proficiency in ProE/Creo or SolidWorks
• Ability to build prototypes of varying levels of fidelity and speed, from rough mock-ups, to breadboard prototypes, to fully functional prototypes with ID surfaces
• Experience designing injection-molded plastic parts for high volume production preferred
• Strong communication, coordination, teamwork, and people skills
