Requirements
  • A high school diploma or high school equivalency is required.
  • The candidate must be physically able to kneel, bend, and lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Proficiency in the safe use of common tools is required.
  • Prior experience or familiarity with repairing adaptive equipment is required.
  • Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook, are required.
  • Strong time management and self-motivation skills are required.
  • A valid New York State driver's license that complies with agency standards is required.
Responsibilities
  • Promote a positive work environment and collaborate respectfully across departments and with people supported who use adaptive equipment.
  • Assess adaptive equipment and repair it as appropriate, contacting vendors for repairs when needed.
  • Use common tools to complete required tasks.
  • Follow safe work practices, including safe use of ladders, power tools, safety equipment, gloves, and safety glasses.
  • Maintain detailed records of repairs.
  • Maintain the agency database of wheelchairs and adaptive equipment in use and in storage.
  • Assist with bed safety monitoring in accordance with agency policy and procedure.
  • Provide staff in-services on care of adaptive equipment, including mechanical lifts, wheelchairs, cushions, and walkers.
  • Collaborate with the therapy team when equipment cannot be repaired to facilitate ordering new equipment.
Desired Qualifications
  • Prior experience with developmental disabilities is preferred.
