  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Proficient computer skills are required.
  • Proficient typing skills are required.
  • Effective communication skills are required.
  • The employee must be able to sit for at least one hour at a time, stand and walk for up to 20 minutes at a time, bend and stoop, lift 5–10 pounds, and use a computer and keyboard for long periods.
  • Completion of four to six weeks of training is required to move forward in the position.

  • Employees must comply with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act and applicable federal and state regulations.
  • Employees must follow organizational policies and procedures, the code of conduct, compliance requirements, and timely issue-reporting requirements.
Responsibilities
  • Greet patients and visitors.
  • Enter and update patient demographic information.
  • Complete insurance verifications for patients.
  • Communicate professionally with patients and clinic staff by telephone and in person.
  • Create correspondence, reports, memos, and forms requested by physicians or administration.
  • Schedule mutually acceptable appointments for patients and physicians, and obtain and enter referral information.
  • Check patients in and out in a timely and professional manner.
  • Collect co-payments, deductibles, co-insurance, and outstanding balances at check-in.
  • Provide customer service during all interactions.
  • Work with all company departments.
  • Print new-patient documents and forms as needed.
  • Maintain inventory and submit front-office supply orders to administration.
  • Keep the front desk and patient waiting area clean, neat, and uncluttered.
  • Copy medical documents according to proper procedures.
  • Distribute mail, faxes, and routine correspondence.
  • Complete bank deposits as needed.
  • Submit accurate end-of-day reports.
  • Collect all balances owed at checkout and charge patients for durable medical equipment or services rendered.
  • Assist with rooming patients, filing, and other basic office tasks.
Desired Qualifications
  • Two to four years of experience in the health care industry.
