Requirements
  • Associate degree in field related to the position plus at least 2 years’ progressive related experience
  • Experience working in a team environment that includes scientist, engineers, technicians, and designers
  • Experience using standard office software products
  • Must be competent in basic electronic work and optical work including Fiber optics
  • Ability to work underground is required
  • Ability to effectively deal with pressures of deadlines and multiple tasks
  • Ability to work well with others, as this position will regularly interface with team members, other teams and outside organizations
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions, work independently, and work as part of a team
  • Ability to execute work in a disciplined manner to demonstrate compliance with laws, codes, orders, and MSTS policies and procedures
  • Pre-placement physical examination, which includes a drug screen, is required. MSTS maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license
  • DOE directive to conduct pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications
  • Department of Energy Q Clearance (position will be cleared to this level)
  • Reviews and tests for the absence of any illegal drug as defined in 10 CFR Part 707.4
  • Applicant selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation, required to participate in subsequent reinvestigations, and must meet the eligibility requirements for access to classified matter. Successful completion of a counterintelligence evaluation, which may include a counterintelligence-scope polygraph examination, may also be required
  • Must obtain and maintain a DOE security clearance which requires U.S. citizenship, at least 18 years of age
Responsibilities
  • Install, configure, troubleshoot, and maintain systems.
  • Work as part of a team of engineers, physicists, and technologists from the labs and the NNSS to install and operate Scorpius and possibly ZEUS, high-energy x-ray and neutron generating devices, along with associated diagnostics systems and detector systems.
  • Collaborate with outside vendor to operate high voltage pulsers to test and characterize accelerator modules in Area 6 of the NNSS prior to final installation at PULSE.
  • Experience in the use of basic and powered hand tools, must have a working knowledge of a variety of laboratory instrumentation such as digitizing storage, DVMs, and oscilloscopes.
  • Frequent travel to the NNSS forward areas will be required (approximately 30 miles beyond the Mercury gate).
  • Assist in the preparation of specifications for structures, systems, and equipment.
  • Perform technical research and gathers data needed by engineers.
  • Assist with detailed review of drawings to ensure accuracy, completeness, and format suitability.
  • Follow checklists for specific equipment-related tasks such as calibration, testing, and operation of equipment or tools needed for the position.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience with vacuum systems, including leak detection techniques, is preferred
