Aug 18, 2026, 08:30 ET In 2025, kids unleashed one of the most formidable predators on land and this fall, they'll awaken one of history's most fearsome predators from the deep TORONTO, Aug. 18, 2026 /CNW/ - Spin Master Corp. (TSX: TOY), a leading global children's entertainment company, has unveiled Primal Hatch Megalodon, the latest addition to its breakout Primal Hatch toy line. The new interactive toy builds on the highly successful Primal Hatch Jurassic World T. Rex, which won the overall Toy of the Year at the 2025 Toy of the Year (TOTY) Awards, more than 10 global industry awards and became the No. 1 item in the Youth Electronics category according to Circana.[1] "Our design team has taken the magic of Primal Hatch Jurassic World T. Rex and created a new play experience with another famously popular prehistoric creature," said David Voss, Spin Master's EVP, Toy Design & Development. "With Primal Hatch Megalodon, we've leveled up the award-winning experience, introducing new, exciting play elements including a theatrical unboxing, the ability to re-hatch multiple times and different ways for kids to interact with their creature. The reveal is simply jaw-dropping!" Inspired by one of history's most legendary ocean predators, Primal Hatch Megalodon delivers an immersive, repeatable play experience that transforms unboxing into an unforgettable adventure. * Primal Hatch Megalodon combines surprise, discovery and imaginative play. Kids place the giant Megalodon egg into a reusable hatch tank and simply add water to begin the experience. As the water fizzes and turns red, the predator awakens with glowing eyes and ferocious roars before dramatically bursting from the shell. Once hatched, the highly detailed 16-inch Megalodon features illuminated eyes and chomping jaws for action-packed play. Designed for repeatable fun, the hatching experience can be reset using the reusable tank and egg components, delivering lasting play value while encouraging curiosity through hands-on, cause-and-effect discovery. Spin Master acquires Hapiko, maker of Stickerbox. The deal adds the AI platform to Spin Master's portfolio. Spin Master is expanding its presence in creative play technology with plans to acquire Hapiko, the Brooklyn-based company behind Stickerbox, a kid-focused tool that uses AI to turn children's spoken ideas into stickers. Under the definitive agreement announced today, Hapiko will join Spin Master as the company looks to build on the momentum of Stickerbox, which has sold out 13 times since launching in late 2025. "We want to empower kids to bring their biggest ideas into the real world," explains Christina Miller, Spin Master's CEO. Stickerbox uses voice-to-image technology to transform children's spoken ideas into printable stickers that can be colored, collected, and applied in the physical world. It encourages hands-on creativity while minimizing passive screen time, with ink-free technology that requires no ink or maintenance. The acquisition aligns with Spin Master's focus on developing new play experiences across its Toys, Entertainment, and Digital Games creative centers. The company sees Hapiko's platform as an opportunity to accelerate its vision for creative tools that help children turn their ideas and imagination into physical creations. "There's nothing like a child's imagination, how it sees the world and turns the everyday into magic," says Arun Gupta, CEO of Hapiko Inc. "We built Stickerbox as a springboard for that creativity, and by joining with Spin Master, we will have an even greater audience and platform for growth." Hapiko's Stickerbox platform could also serve as a foundation for future product extensions, expanding the technology beyond its current creative tool and into additional areas of open-ended play. Financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed. This voice-powered sticker maker lets kids create and print endless sticker combinations with AI. It has guardrails and parents in mind with built-in filters and assurances that the device is not "always listening" to prevent unwanted content. Spin Master, a global children's entertainment company, has reached a definitive agreement to acquire Brooklyn-based Hapiko Inc. The company is known for Stickerbox, a creative tool that uses child-safe AI to transform children's spoken ideas into printable stickers. Stickerbox has sold out 13 times since launching in late 2025. The product features voice-to-image generation, ink-free technology, and is COPPA-compliant, prioritising safety whilst minimising screen time. "By pairing Hapiko's platform with our track record of innovation, we can accelerate our vision for the future of play," said Christina Miller, Spin Master's chief executive officer. Spin Master, listed on the Toronto Stock Exchange, owns brands including PAW Patrol, Melissa & Doug, and Bakugan, and employs close to 2,500 people globally across nearly 20 countries.
Spin Master buys Stickerbox, the AI toy that sold out 13 times. Spin Master, the Canadian company behind PAW Patrol and Bakugan, announced on August 17 that it has signed a definitive agreement to acquire Hapiko Inc., the Brooklyn-based startup behind a small machine called Stickerbox. The deal is valued at somewhere between $35 million and $50 million and is expected to close later this month. What Stickerbox actually does. You say an idea out loud. A dinosaur wearing roller skates, a cat astronaut, a birthday cake with seventeen candles. Stickerbox uses voice-to-image technology to turn that spoken idea into a printable sticker you can peel off, colour in, collect, and stick on your water bottle. It is one of the rare AI products aimed at kids where the output lands in the physical world instead of staying trapped on a screen. The demand has been real. Since launching in late 2025, Stickerbox has sold out thirteen separate times. The privacy part matters. Hapiko built Stickerbox to be COPPA-compliant from the start, meaning it follows the US rules on collecting data from children under 13. For a device that listens to a child's voice, that is not a footnote. It is the whole question. Spin Master CEO Christina Miller framed the purchase around creativity, saying the company wants to "empower kids to bring their biggest ideas into the real world." Why a big toy company wanted this. Traditional toy companies have spent three years trying to work out what AI actually adds to play. Most answers so far have been chatbots in plush bodies. Stickerbox is a different bet: AI as a tool that helps a kid make something, rather than AI as a friend that talks back. That is a much easier idea to explain to a parent standing in a toy aisle. Kyra's take. I have been reviewing toys since I was five, and I have unboxed a LOT of things that promised to be "smart." Most of them were just a speaker with a face. This one is different, and I think it is because the AI does not pretend to be your friend. It just makes the thing you described. You are still the one with the idea. The COPPA-compliant bit is what I would look at first if I were a parent. I have been reading a lot about kids' data rules this year, and a voice-activated toy is exactly the kind of product where that either was designed in from day one or was bolted on later. Hapiko says day one. Now that Spin Master owns it, I would love to see them publish exactly what happens to a child's voice recording after the sticker prints. That is the follow-up question nobody has asked yet. Ronnen Harary cofounded Spin Master in 1994, starting with a simple grass-seed toy. The company has since grown to generate $2.1 billion in revenue last year, representing major toy brands. In his new book, "No Experience Necessary," Harary argues that timing and youth were crucial to his success. "If you asked me to build Spin Master again, to do it all over from scratch, I couldn't," he writes, noting that even with his current capital and experience, recreating the company wouldn't be possible without the advantage of youth. Business Insider's Sarah E. Needleman interviewed Harary on Monday at 13:30 ET to discuss how he grew Spin Master and the toy industry.
