CARA Medical builds software that helps doctors visualize the heart's electrical conduction system without surgery. Its tools use a patient’s CT angiography to create a personalized 3D map of the conduction pathways and provide navigation during procedures. The CARA Metis software generates a pre-procedure 3D overlay of the conduction system to aid planning, while CARA Atlas offers interactive, real-time 3D guidance during interventions. This setup supports conduction system pacing and structural heart procedures such as TAVR, TMVR, and TTVR. Compared with others, CARA Medical emphasizes patient-specific, non-invasive visualization derived from existing imaging to inform planning and execution, backed by a leadership team with deep experience in cardiac imaging and medical devices. The company’s goal is to reduce procedural risks and improve the precision of cardiac device placement, ultimately improving outcomes for patients undergoing complex heart procedures.

Cara Medical receives FDA clearance for noninvasive cardiac conduction system visualisation platform

Cara Medical has received FDA 510(k) clearance for the CARA System, a computed tomography angiography-based platform that provides noninvasive 3D visualisation of the cardiac conduction system. The system, which received FDA Breakthrough Device Designation last year, enables visualisation during structural heart and pacing procedures. The CARA System comprises two components: CARA Metis Simulator for preprocedural planning and CARA Atlas Navigator for intraprocedural guidance. The platform is intended for procedures including transcatheter aortic valve replacement and conduction system pacing. The system uses AI and machine learning algorithms to support CT segmentation and catheter detection, with outputs requiring physician review. Cara Medical plans to begin its US commercial launch in the coming months.
