Requirements
  • The candidate must graduate from an accredited school of nursing; an Associate degree is accepted, with Registered Nurses hired with an Associate degree required to complete a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree within two years.
  • The candidate must hold a valid Florida Registered Nurse license.
  • The candidate must hold Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support certification and Basic Life Support certification from the American Heart Association.
  • The candidate must have at least one year of acute care Medical Surgical experience.
Responsibilities
  • Assess assigned patients and evaluate care plans, including documentation of nursing care; report symptoms and changes in patients’ conditions and vital signs; and modify treatment plans based on patient responses, conditions, and physician orders.
  • Review, evaluate, and report diagnostic tests to assess patients’ conditions.
  • Consult with physicians and other healthcare professionals to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care plans.
  • Prepare patients for and assist with examinations, procedures, and treatments while considering patient age and culture, providing treatment-plan information, and psychological support.
  • Perform appropriate patient tests and safely administer medications within the scope of practice; maintain accurate records for medications and treatments according to regulatory requirements, policies, procedures, and physician orders.
  • Communicate the plan of care to patients, families, and appropriate team members in a timely manner while complying with regulatory guidelines, including the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, and use best practices for patient-care transitions.
  • Use available resources to assist in discharge planning.
  • Plan, prioritize, and adjust assignments to accomplish goals and provide patient care, seeking assistance when needed.
  • Adapt to changing work demands and environments and safely operate medical equipment.
  • Serve as a preceptor and assist new staff in providing care and acclimating to the healthcare environment and direct patient-care role; provide concise, constructive feedback when needed.
  • Adhere to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguard University assets.
Desired Qualifications
  • A Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree is preferred.
