The company differentiates itself with an online-first model, transparent pricing, venue-based celebrations, and technology-driven operations compared with traditional funeral homes and other deathcare providers. Stripe alum raises $9M for Meadow to disrupt $20B funeral industry with online planning

Meadow Memorials, an online funeral planning startup co-founded by former Stripe product leader Sam Gerstenzang and Emma Gilsanz, has raised $9 million in Series A funding led by Lachy Groom and Haystack. The New York-based company offers funerals without traditional funeral homes, allowing families to arrange services online or by phone. By partnering with venues like wedding halls, Meadow avoids real estate costs and offers funerals at around $3,000, significantly below the national median of $8,300 for burials. Founded in January 2024, the company tripled revenue from 2024 to 2025 and serves over 400 families monthly. After becoming California's largest independent funeral provider, Meadow has expanded into Texas and Washington, targeting five more states this year in the $20 billion deathcare industry.
