Requirements
  • A Master's degree in a behavioral health-related field.
  • At least two years of post-master's professional work experience working with youth and providing mental health and/or family therapy.
  • An Associate License through the Arizona Board of Behavioral Health Examiners, or an applicable equivalent approved by the Juvenile Court's Director of Therapeutic Services, is required at appointment.
  • Independent licensure through the Arizona Board of Behavioral Health Examiners, or an applicable equivalent approved by the Juvenile Court's Director of Therapeutic Services, is required within three years of hire.
  • Associate licensure must be maintained in active status at all times.
  • Knowledge of mental health practice; social aspects of mental illness and emotional and behavioral disorders; public and private health and welfare agencies; and case management.
  • Knowledge of County and Department policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of court processes, legal terminology, and justice system administrative processes and protocols.
  • Knowledge of psychotherapeutic and behavioral healthcare protocols and practices, including assessment, intervention, and behavior management.
  • Knowledge of state codes and regulations pertaining to juvenile justice-involved youth.
  • Knowledge of facilitation and conflict resolution procedures and professional rules of conduct.
  • Knowledge of records management, file systems, and case files.
  • Knowledge of local community resources and community service programs.
  • Skill in evaluating behavioral health problems and making recommendations based on observations.
  • Skill in interacting with people from different social, economic, and ethnic backgrounds.
  • Skill in understanding, interpreting, and applying relevant statutes, ordinances, codes, and regulations.
  • Skill in assessing and prioritizing multiple tasks, projects, and demands.
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with coworkers, organizations, and community representatives.
  • Skill in operating a personal computer and standard software, including an electronic medical record.
Responsibilities
  • Apply current behavioral health practices and agency policies and procedures.
  • Establish and maintain the confidence and cooperation of personnel contacted during work.
  • Write clear, accurate, and concise reports.
  • Maintain an objective and empathetic understanding of mental illness and emotional and behavioral disorders.
  • Work toward independent licensure and ensure appropriate clinical oversight of all work.
  • Conduct individual, group, and family therapy with justice-involved youth.
  • Formulate treatment plans using evidence-based modalities and evaluate treatment outcomes for court-involved youth.
  • Facilitate family participation in the treatment process.
  • Facilitate family engagement through educational and support groups for family members of juvenile justice-involved youth.
  • Consult with staff and participate in the development and monitoring of individual behavior plans for detained youth.
  • Participate in Child and Family Team meetings and other staffing meetings as necessary.
  • Prepare progress notes and other reports as necessary or directed.
  • Provide consultation, education, and training to staff and other groups, including parents and community members.
  • Testify at hearings or in court as required.
  • Ensure compliance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act and applicable laws and regulations concerning confidentiality, privacy, and security.
Desired Qualifications
  • Fluency in both English and Spanish.
  • Two years of experience providing direct therapy to youth ages 8–17.
