Job Summary:
Our Engineering teams—spanning mechanical, firmware, machine learning and AI, cloud, and mobile technologies and more—reinvent access by combining hardware with cutting-edge, cloud-based solutions to create a safer, smarter customer experience.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The Electrical Engineering/Computer Engineering/Computer Science Intern/Co-Op is responsible for applying knowledge of engineering principles to prototype electronics and software projects. The main emphasis is on design development of consumer products, with focus on access control. Wireless remote controls, garage door openers, gate operators and commercial door openers are examples of access control products. The ability to support other hardware and firmware engineers is required. Additionally, this position requires the engineer to interact, communicate and contribute within a cross-functional team environment, including but not limited to mechanical engineers, industrial designers, and marketing product managers.
Provide electrical engineering hardware and firmware support to new and existing product designs
Analyze, design and debug tests for digital and analog circuits with limited complexity.
Schematic capture PCB design
Write design specifications and test reports
Performs bench testing of designs
Minimum Qualifications
Minimum junior standing towards a degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related fields of study from an accredited college or university
Must be able to work from our Oakbrook, IL office (15 miles west of Chicago) 3 days a week
Driven to learn new ideas and design practices
Experience with prototyping electronics or software projects is strongly desired
Good verbal and written communication skills
Experience with MS Office tools
Preferred Qualifications:
Intern or co-op experience
Programming experience with C, Arduino, Python or another object-oriented programming language
Experience with electrical test equipment such as oscilloscope, power supply, signal generator, spectrum analyzer or network analyzer
Experience with LabVIEW test automation software
Experience with soldering, component placement, breadboarding or similar projects
Experience with simulation software such as Altium
