Requirements
  • Graduation from an accredited Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing, Associate’s Degree in Nursing, or Nursing Diploma program.
  • Registered nurses without a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing must enroll in an appropriate BSN program within two years of their start date and complete it within seven years.
  • Current or compact registered nurse licensure in North Carolina is required.
  • Basic Life Support certification is required.
  • Competence in Basic Life Support and any specialized life-support requirements designated by the work area or organization.
  • Knowledge of the registered nurse, licensed practical nurse, and unlicensed staff scopes of practice.
  • Knowledge and appropriate application of the nursing process.
  • Knowledge of professional nursing theory, practice, and procedures.
  • Ability to assess nursing needs of acutely and chronically ill patients and their families.
  • Ability to use sensory and cognitive functions to process and prioritize information, treatment, and follow-up.
  • Ability to use fine motor skills.
  • Ability to record activities, document assessments, care plans, interventions, evaluations, and re-evaluations of patient status.
  • Ability to use computers and learn new software programs.
  • Ability to document and communicate pertinent information using computer or paper documentation tools.
  • Ability to navigate the entity to provide clinical care for patients.
  • Ability to withstand prolonged standing and walking.
  • Ability to remain focused and organized.
  • Working knowledge of procedures and techniques for administering routine and special patient treatments.
  • Working knowledge of infection-control procedures and safety precautions.
  • Working knowledge and completion of applicable Joint Commission and other regulatory requirements.
  • Successful completion of pre-employment Physical Capacity Testing.
Responsibilities
  • Plan, provide, and document professional nursing care using the nursing process in accordance with physician orders, nursing plans of care, and established policies and procedures.
  • Provide nursing services to patients and families within the scope of practice defined by the North Carolina Board of Nursing.
  • Delegate tasks and supervise the activities of licensed and unlicensed care providers.
  • Assist other healthcare personnel in delivering patient care.
  • Participate in maintaining the care environment, including equipment and material resources.
  • Prioritize work organization and identify available resources to complete components of care in a timely manner.
  • Maintain required competencies, identify learning needs, and seek appropriate assistance or educational offerings for professional development.
  • Support the development of other staff and formal learners.
  • Identify clinical or operational performance-improvement opportunities and assist with performance-improvement activities.
  • Perform other related duties incidental to the work described.
