Requirements
  • Master’s degree in economics or financial economics. A PhD and/or CFA designation will be an asset.
  • Minimum 5 years in macroeconomic research and/or capital markets-related experience
  • Advanced quantitative and econometric expertise, with proven experience applying these skills to portfolio construction and investment strategy modeling.
  • Extensive knowledge of macroeconomic principles, coupled with professional experience in financial markets.
  • Strong ability to convey complex concepts clearly and effectively to non-technical audiences.
  • Exceptional communication abilities (both written and verbal), complemented by strong interpersonal and presentation skills.
  • Demonstrated capacity to research and explore new ideas to connect macroeconomic perspectives with investment decisions.
  • Proficiency in Python is an asset.
  • Proven ability to work independently while thriving in a collaborative team environment.
Responsibilities
  • Contribute to macroeconomic and financial market research in support of the investment process within TFM and other departments.
  • Assess the global economic environment as well as develop medium and long-term outlooks for financial markets to support the Ontario Teachers’ Global Macroeconomic Framework.
  • Support research into the development of various indicators in areas such as the economic cycle and monetary policy.
  • The candidates will be responsible for macro coverage of the European and APAC regions.
  • Provide support to our Investment Departments in making economic assumptions underpinning their investment decisions.
  • Prepare written reports and presentations to inform the investment decision-making process within Teachers’.
  • Work cross-functionally with other team members and departments to ensure continued alignment with OTPP’s vision, mission, goals and values. This includes supporting and sharing knowledge with other areas of TFM, as well as responding to ad hoc requests from other departments.
  • The role will be an important player in shaping the Global Macro Insights agenda as it builds its brand and credibility.
  • Conduct macro research with a regional focus as well as taking the lead on coverage of a major asset class.
  • Collaborate closely with other members of the Portfolio Strategy group to inform key Total Fund decisions.
  • Utilize advanced quantitative and econometric expertise to drive success in this role.
