Pinterest is a visual discovery and bookmarking platform where users save ideas as pins on themed boards. People browse and search for ideas across topics like recipes, home decor, and fashion, then save or share pins to organize their interests. The product works through a feed and search results that show relevant pins, with tools for creating, organizing, and sharing boards. It earns revenue mainly from advertising—promoted pins shown in feeds and search results—and affiliate marketing, earning commissions when traffic leads to retailers. The platform differentiates itself with its visual discovery engine, focus on saving and organizing inspiration, and its advertising and affiliate ecosystem that targets users based on their interests. Pinterest’s goal is to help people discover ideas they love and turn that inspiration into action by connecting users with content creators and businesses.

Pinterest reports revenue growth to $1.18B but swings to $46.67M loss, appoints Airbnb veteran as chief accounting officer

Pinterest reported second-quarter 2026 revenue of $1.18 billion but swung to a $46.67 million loss from prior profitability. The company issued third-quarter revenue guidance of $1.19 billion to $1.21 billion. Pinterest appointed Renee Jewell, currently Controller at Airbnb and CFO of Airbnb Payments, as Chief Accounting Officer. The hire signals a focus on financial leadership as the company navigates higher sales alongside renewed losses. The quarter highlights execution risks as cost pressures persist despite revenue growth. Investors may scrutinise financial discipline as Pinterest invests in AI, shopping tools, and international expansion. Analyst projections suggest the company needs 12.3% annual revenue growth to reach $6.2 billion by 2029. Some optimistic forecasts had previously anticipated revenue climbing towards $6.8 billion, though these estimates may shift following the quarterly loss.

Pinterest beats revenue and user targets but shares fall 8% on slowing growth outlook

Pinterest reported strong second-quarter results but shares fell over 8% after hours on slower growth guidance. Revenue rose 18% year-on-year to $1.18 billion, beating expectations of $1.15 billion. Adjusted earnings of 43 cents per share exceeded the 36-cent forecast. Monthly active users reached a record 640 million, up 11%, with Gen Z comprising over half the user base. However, third-quarter guidance of $1.19 billion to $1.21 billion implies growth of 13% to 15%, down from 18%. Chief executive Bill Ready revealed Pinterest builds small, task-specific AI models and uses open-weight models rather than expensive proprietary systems, achieving costs under 8% of comparable closed models. The company raised its full-year adjusted EBITDA margin target to roughly 30% and generated $270 million in free cash flow.
