Requirements
  • A valid Physical Therapy license in the state or states of practice, or proof of license and eligibility, is required.
  • A Master's degree in Physical Therapy is required; alternatively, a Master's degree in a Physical Therapy-related field plus a Bachelor's degree in Physical Therapy is accepted.
  • A Bachelor's degree in Physical Therapy plus five years of progressively responsible Physical Therapist experience is accepted.
  • Availability to travel to and temporarily reside in locations outside the therapist's primary home is required.
  • A qualifying Physical Therapy degree earned outside the United States must be evaluated as the United States equivalent of a Physical Therapy degree.
Responsibilities
  • Travel nationwide for 13-week assignments and temporarily reside at assignment locations.
  • Assess patients, develop and deliver physical therapy programs, and facilitate rehabilitation.
  • Identify patients' comprehensive needs and make referrals to other disciplines and agencies.
  • Implement individualized therapy programs designed to restore, reinforce, and enhance performance.
  • Instruct, educate, and train patients and caregivers in skills that promote independence and productivity.
  • Direct activities that promote and maintain health.
  • Supervise Physical Therapy Assistants, temporary licensees, students, and support personnel as necessary and in accordance with state licensure requirements and professional standards.
  • Deliver rehabilitation services effectively and efficiently while adhering to the established plan of care, department and patient schedules, and timely documentation requirements.
  • Attend and contribute to patient care, staffing conferences, and related meetings.
  • Consult with rehabilitation team members to select an appropriate therapeutic regimen consistent with each patient's needs and capabilities.
  • Adapt programs and plans of care to individual patient needs.
  • Promote a safe environment and eliminate fire and safety hazards.
  • Order supplies and equipment as necessary.
  • Clean and maintain equipment and identify and report repair needs.
  • Provide patient-first service in a caring and compassionate environment that recognizes patients' and families' needs and rights.
  • Screen, examine, and evaluate patients, including taking histories, performing systems reviews, applying appropriate tests and measures, synthesizing and interpreting findings, establishing diagnoses, identifying impairments, determining predicted improvement and treatment time, identifying precautions and contraindications, and designing plans of care.
  • Develop treatment goals and methods collaboratively with patients and caregivers, implement physical therapy treatment plans, and complete related documentation and record keeping.
  • Apply therapeutic techniques including therapeutic exercise, functional training, manual therapy, airway clearance techniques, integumentary repair and protection, and electrotherapeutic, physical-agent, and mechanical modalities.
  • Design, fabricate, fit, or apply adaptive devices and train patients to use adaptive devices, including orthotics and prosthetics.
  • Select activities appropriate to each individual's physical and mental capacity, intelligence level, and interests.
  • Instruct patients in mobility skills and techniques and evaluate progress, attitudes, and behavior related to rehabilitative potential.
  • Perform routine reexaminations as needed to modify or progress treatment plans.
  • Perform other related duties as required.
