BMO recruits Wells Fargo executive Brent Reston as U.S. Chief Digital Officer.

BMO recruits Wells Fargo executive Brent Reston as U.S. Chief Digital Officer. Published. August 31, 2026 Canadian banking giant BMO has recruited former Wells Fargo managing director Brent Reston as Chief Digital Officer for its U.S. division, putting him in charge of sweeping tech integration across newly consolidated regional operations. Reston steps into the role following the departure of former head of U.S. banking digital and technology Brianna Elsass, who recently concluded a decade-long tenure at BMO to join Wisconsin-based Associated Bank. Bringing deep industry experience, Reston previously led mobile app overhauls, deployed the Fargo AI virtual assistant, and launched digital lending products during his four years at Wells Fargo. His career background also features eight years driving client experience initiatives at Bank of America alongside five years handling corporate strategy at Merrill Lynch. As first reported by FinTech Futures, BMO U.S. President Aron Levine confirmed on LinkedIn that the executive will "play a key role in helping us accelerate our digital strategy and continue building exceptional experiences for our clients." The leadership hire coincides with a major physical restructuring, marked by BMO's pending transaction to offload 138 retail locations across the Midwest and Great Plains regions to First Citizens Bank by mid-2026. Capital generated from these regional branch sales will fund the rollout of 130 new physical branches in California and 15 locations in Arizona over the next five years, focusing expansion efforts on high-growth retail markets that currently generate over 40% of BMO's total corporate earnings.
