Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science or similar; or equivalent experience in computer science fundamentals including data structures, algorithms, design patterns, and complexity analysis.
  • 8+ years of professional software development experience, including 3+ years of experience leading technical strategy or serving as a Principal/Staff Engineer working with Java (or similar languages), and frameworks such as Spring Boot.
  • 5+ years of experience designing, building, deploying, scaling, testing, and evolving distributed systems and high-volume transaction applications using service-oriented architecture in 24/7 production environments.
  • Strong proficiency in cloud infrastructure, AWS preferred, including familiarity with infrastructure-as-code concepts (e.g., Terraform).
  • 2+ years of experience using cloud infrastructure technologies such as AWS, Terraform or similar cloud services.
  • 3+ years of hands-on experience working with both relational and NoSQL databases, applying the right data models to diverse needs.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication abilities, with a proven talent for articulating complex technical roadmaps and trade-offs to executive leaders, business stakeholders, and engineering teams, ensuring alignment on long-term strategy and execution.
Responsibilities
  • Work closely with engineers, product managers, and stakeholders across the company to gather complex product requirements and transform them into effective, robust, and production-ready solutions.
  • Define, socialize, and lead the technical vision and architectural roadmap for the entire Dealer Competitive Intelligence platform, ensuring long-term performance, reliability, and security across the entire data lifecycle.
  • Serve as a technical leader by establishing clear engineering practices, ensuring high standards for code quality, testability, observability, and operational excellence across the team and adjacent groups.
  • Guide the technical direction in both our important Java backend services (e.g., microservices, APIs) and sophisticated modern web applications (React) that provide data visualization and intuitive user experiences.
  • Mentor, coach, and support the growth of engineers, leading technical design reviews and promoting sound technical decision-making throughout the organization.
  • Evaluate, advocate for, and incorporate advanced technologies, including AI/ML capabilities, to enhance the accuracy, breadth, and strategic value of our market intelligence data products.

CarGurus shares jump 19% after Q4 revenue beats expectations at $241M

CarGurus reported Q4 revenues of $241.1 million, up 14.7% year-on-year, exceeding analyst expectations by 0.8%. The automotive marketplace delivered mixed results, with next quarter's revenue guidance topping expectations but EBITDA guidance falling short. CEO Jason Trevisan called 2025 "a pivotal year" as the company expanded products across dealer workflows and consumer journeys whilst delivering strong financial performance. The stock has risen 19.3% since reporting and currently trades at $34.85. Amongst 12 tracked online marketplace stocks, Q4 results were mixed overall. Revenues beat consensus estimates by 1.5%, whilst next quarter's guidance was in line. Share prices have increased 3.1% on average since earnings. eBay posted the strongest quarter with revenues of $2.97 billion, up 15% year-on-year.

CarGurus has raised its profile amongst auto marketplace competitors by divesting unprofitable operations whilst monetising AI-powered dealer tools that demonstrably improve customer results. The stock is up 12.4% since its fourth-quarter earnings report, outperforming the SPY index which dropped 2.11% over the same period. The company completed the wind-down of CarOffer, its struggling wholesale vehicle transactions business, on 31 December 2025. Full-year 2025 gross profit reached $841.5 million, up nearly 14% year-over-year, whilst free cash flow hit $265.96 million, up 47.49%. CarGurus' AI-powered inventory pricing tool, PriceVantage, showed early adopters achieving five times faster vehicle turn times and a 71% increase in daily shopper connections. Total paying dealers reached 34,409 in fourth quarter, up 7% year-over-year.

CarGurus reports 14% revenue growth to $907M, adds 1,357 US dealers in record expansion

CarGurus reported 14% annual revenue growth to $907 million for 2025, driven by record dealer network expansion.
