Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree in Education or a related field from an accredited college or university is required.
  • A State of Arizona Teaching Certificate in Special Education for Highly Qualified status is required.
  • An active Arizona Department of Public Safety IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card is required.
  • Professional verification of successful classroom teacher performance and/or student teaching experience is required.
  • An equivalent combination of experience, training, and/or education providing comparable knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered.
  • The employee must maintain confidentiality of protected student and staff member information.
  • The employee must maintain current teaching certificates and meet state and school requirements for continuing professional growth.
  • The employee must be able to use instructional adaptive technology tools in online courses.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook, is required.
  • Proficiency with technology, computers, and the Microsoft Office Suite is required.
  • The employee must be able to stand, walk, sit, talk, hear, and use hands, arms, and fingers for data entry and handling materials; occasional lifting or pushing of up to 15 pounds may be required.
Responsibilities
  • Implement individualized education plans targeting students' disability-related needs.
  • Work with the Special Education team to identify, evaluate, and serve students with disabilities who qualify for special education services.
  • Participate in activities related to evaluating and serving students with disabilities.
  • Deliver instruction in applicable content areas, including reading, writing, language and vocabulary, mathematics, assistive technology, counseling, study skills, and problem solving, according to students' individualized education plans.
  • Determine instructional techniques, strategies, and methods, and adapt curriculum and learning styles to meet and assess student needs.
  • Maintain data on individualized education plan goal growth, service attendance, and communication with parents and teachers.
  • Communicate with parents and guardians about students' academic and discipline issues through phone calls, notes, progress reports, and other media.
  • Develop and organize appropriate virtual classroom materials.
  • Develop activities, resources, strategies, methods, lesson plans, and substitute teaching plans aligned with learning objectives.
  • Develop, analyze, adjust, and implement individualized education plans based on assessments, including selecting appropriate assessment tools and levels.
  • Contribute to students' well-being in decision-making.
  • Contribute to the professional growth of colleagues by sharing and planning curriculum, staying current with educational trends, and continuing professional development.
  • Work collaboratively to achieve the overall purposes of the school program.
  • Maintain a classroom atmosphere conducive to learning.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
  • Plan for instructional assistants and parental volunteers in classroom management.
  • Implement school policies.
