Requirements
- Opportunities available for 3rd or 4th year Undergraduates, or Master's/PhD Candidates in Biology, Chemical Engineering, Bioengineering, Biomedical Engineering, or other multidisciplinary engineering fields with exposure to biological applications
- Completed coursework in molecular and cell biology, chemistry, computer programming, and engineering topics
- Basic data analysis skills and understanding of statistics
- Ability to convey information clearly and succinctly
- Intellectually curious and passionate about developing new technology
- Preference for hands-on work, with an interest in executing experiments in the lab and on our novel systems
- Ability to thrive in an inter-disciplinary development team
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Outstanding verbal and written communication skills to clearly discuss ideas with scientists and engineers from diverse backgrounds
Responsibilities
- Partner with scientists and engineers to design, build, validate, and analyze biological workflows on Berkeley Lights' OptoFluidic platform
- Support the Applications Engineering team in daily operations and hands-on testing of new workflows
- Own a dedicated project/development activity with direct impact on current and/or future projects. Projects may include invention/optimization of new automated processes, failure/root cause analysis, and creation/validation of new analytical methods
- Analyze, summarize, and present findings to audiences of various technical backgrounds
- Engage in and contribute to technical discussions
Desired Qualifications
- 0 -3 years of experience working in a biology or engineering laboratory. Exposure to cell-culture, cell-based assays, automation, or microscopy platforms is a plus
- Experience in scripting languages (Python, MATLAB, or Java) and/or laboratory automation is a plus
