Position Overview
The VP, Production is responsible for leading the sourcing, product development, production process and calendar. The ideal candidate has established factory relationships to expand the vendor base and improve product quality. This candidate will identify and resolve process gaps and help to mitigate the impact of risks by influencing teams and promoting compliance. This candidate should be able to work independently to manage deliverables and expectations while leading a team including PD, Fabric R&D, PD Operations and an overseas sourcing office. Partnering closely with Design, Merchandising, Technical Design, Merchandise Planning, Allocation and overseas partners.
Responsibilities
- Creating product development and production calendar; tracking multiple projects and timelines; organizing project details and schedules; coordinating with internal departments for each category/division within the company
- Responsible for development timelines; liaison with design, merchandising and channel leads to create go to market calendars that align with business expectations
- Drive Sourcing Strategy (including vendor, COO, and cost strategies) to meet business needs, leverage market conditions, and mitigate risks.
- Translate Merchant Strategy into actionable sourcing recommendations; deliver sourcing strategies that meet costing targets.
- Maintain and analyze cost and pricing grids for all orders within the company
- Partner with design throughout design prototype development and approval process
- Lead the production team in establishing processes by implementing detailed work in progress calendar reports for all factories
- Drive the holistic production process
- Oversee all communication with factories regarding the daily execution of products from sketches/tech packs to final production
- Oversee approval process and analyze Factory WIP to ensure on time deliveries
- Manage and negotiate the delivery dates of development and production samples
- Determine factory allocation based on factory strengths, pricing and general margin requirements
- Liaise with manufacturers on material management, final production engineering, cost optimization and price negotiation
- Constantly evaluate and implement new systems to ensure accuracy and efficiency along with the production process
- Hire, train engage and retain a team to meet the needs of the business
- Anticipate potential problems and risks, generate new ideas and solutions
- Evaluate vendor mix and size of vendor base
- Source and negotiate best price and delivery
- Review final costing file to make sure it meets or exceeds the budget
- Daily communication with overseas suppliers on all production details, and costing
- Manage product integrity and order specifications compliance
- Plan and execute a strategic sourcing plan to identify strategic partners
- Provide strong leadership, management, development, and training to team members.
- Be accustomed to working with Agents/Owned Offices/Direct Factories
- Continuously reevaluate the team and align the team/process to best service the brand.
Skills and Requirements
- Extensive knowledge of garment manufacturing, including construction, fabrication, trim and print techniques, fabric weight, fabric content, and fabric construction
- Must have Global factory connections within women’s and men’s apparel
- Deep knowledge of cost engineering, duty engineering, and all other aspects of product costing.
- 10-15 years of experience in a vertical retailer working in apparel production
- Understand quality practices and product regulatory requirements.
- Ability to build collaborative relationships across departments and divisions supporting a team environment
- Excellent time management skills with a sense of priority for deadlines and attention to detail
- Experience with Microsoft D365 a plus
- Computer proficiency in MS Office: Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
For individuals assigned and/or hired to work in New York, Club Monaco includes a reasonable estimate of the salary or hourly rate range for this role. This accounts for the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions; including but not limited to business or organizational needs, skill sets, experience and training, licensure, and certifications.
A reasonable estimate of the current compensation is $200,000 - $230,000 annually.
