Requirements
  • A Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field is required, although equivalent relevant experience may substitute at the hiring manager's discretion.
  • At least 10 years of experience in software development, including pioneering new approaches and technologies in engineering, is required.
  • Experience with web-based applications and web services, including Java, Representational State Transfer, Structured Query Language, Git, and integration of third-party products, is required.

Responsibilities
  • Act as an expert in multiple areas of software engineering.
  • Maintain accountability for service quality across multiple areas and teams to support on-time, on-budget, and on-scope project delivery.
  • Serve as a lead or consultant for a domain area or multiple teams and act as a trusted go-to person in one or more software engineering disciplines or application areas.
  • Contribute formally and informally to team effectiveness through mentoring and direction during team meetings and problem solving.
  • Identify systemic issues and contribute to their resolution.
  • Ensure that engineering has the skill sets needed for current and future technologies.
  • Act as a planning consultant for Portfolio or Educational Technology by identifying technical risks and dependencies, anticipating problems, evaluating solutions, and recommending preferred solutions.
  • Speak authoritatively and accurately about the area of ownership or the platform as a whole.
  • Improve operational excellence as measured by platform availability for students, faculty, and staff.
  • Apply strategies and tools to plan and execute testing that maximizes quality while minimizing implementation cost.
  • Understand the implications of functional and non-functional requirements, identify deficiencies, and work with product owners to develop alternatives.
  • Define the architecture, development, and deployment of machine learning, large language model, and intelligent systems at scale from research and experimentation through production implementation.
  • Define how large language models, generative artificial intelligence, agents, and intelligent systems integrate into the core platform architecture for scalability, extensibility, security, and operational robustness.
  • Identify emerging technologies, research trends, and industry best practices and translate them into practical platform innovations.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
Desired Qualifications
  • A Master's Degree or PhD in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field is preferred.
  • Technical experience with Git, Structured Query Language, Spring, Spring Boot, Java, Angular 2 or later, and Amazon Web Services is preferred.
  • Experience with Salesforce development lifecycle techniques and Salesforce governor limits is preferred.
  • Experience with cloud-based telephony, Computer Telephony Integration, Session Initiation Protocol/Voice over Internet Protocol phones and protocols, Quality of Service, Interactive Voice Response systems, and call recording is preferred.
  • Experience architecting, implementing, and managing enterprise-level contact center solutions is preferred.
  • Deep experience in machine learning, artificial intelligence, large language models, or intelligent systems, including taking machine learning and artificial intelligence systems into production, is preferred.
  • Strong understanding of large language model architectures, model serving, inference, evaluation, orchestration, and production integration of artificial intelligence capabilities is preferred.
  • Experience with Responsible Artificial Intelligence, including artificial intelligence safety, privacy, security, governance, and risk management, is preferred.
  • Experience with distance education and distance learning students is preferred.
