Requirements
  • Experience in Capacity Planning and Performance modeling, forecasting, and tuning for Distributed Systems (preferably encompassing Layer 1-3)
  • Significant experience and knowledge about Telecom networks – Outside Plant and Transmission; forecasting and modeling skills in addition to being grounded in analysis of the traffic data generated in both access and aggregation networks
  • Experience in applying big picture view of telecom networks (Ethernet, IP, SONET, switching, wireless, microwave, satellite), the technologies, process and systems used to evaluate new technology, analyze trends, and identify resource needs
  • Experience required in accessing and manipulating AutoCAD based documentation
  • In-depth technical knowledge and experience with OpNet and/or other specialized programs
  • Experience and in-depth knowledge of developing capacity Planning and Performance metrics
  • Strong working knowledge of application tuning techniques and tools
  • Strong relationship building skills with face-to-face customer interaction
  • Exceptional Attention to Detail: Successfully completes tasks requiring deep attention to a high volume of detailed information
  • Ability to manage multiple and diverse technology issues to resolution, with minimal supervision

  • BS in Engineering or equivalent work experience (eight years experience in developing Layer 2/3 network architecture and/or modeling or similar experience)
Responsibilities
  • Capture all details of current and future development and installations enabling engineering oversight
  • Ensure timely provisioning of cost-justifiable services that meet the current and future needs of the customer
  • Reduce the risk of degraded availability of mission-critical services
  • Provide up-to-date insight into available capacity and risk factors
  • Simulate and model effects of proposed projects and requested changes to the infrastructure prior to implementation
  • Review briefing for trends requiring engineering attention and make recommendations
  • Produce ad hoc resource usage reports, deliverables, and performance metrics analysis and reports – suitable for all levels of mission support
  • Quality Assurance: to include the review of engineering documentation and analyzing OSP requests for network impacts
  • Engineering Studies and Analysis: specific studies will include trading off modeling tools and other engineering tools to improve operational efficiency
  • Perform second level problem determination using monitoring and data collection tools in capacity related disciplines
  • Analyzing performance data identifying bottlenecks and recommending alternative resolutions
  • Enable planning of future network innovation through modeling and simulations
  • Incorporate new technologies and product innovation into forecasting and modeling
  • Apply various engineering design, build processes, and network operations and support processes as needed; map processes and inter-linkages
  • Coordinate with operations, sales and other departments in the company
  • Vendor management and integrating vendor support into technical and process functions of the engineering
