Requirements
  • A high school diploma or equivalent and one year of experience in a customer-focused or service setting are required.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, procedures, and computer use is preferred.
Responsibilities
  • Assist providers during examinations under general direction from Nursing Leadership.
  • Apply clinical knowledge, anticipate provider needs, and adapt assistance to patient complexity.
  • Attach patients to diagnostic and medical equipment, including a dynamap, pulse oximeter, electrocardiogram equipment, cardiac monitor, and pneumatic tourniquet.
  • Explain examination next steps, systems, and status to patients; provide comfort and care; ensure supplies and equipment are available; and provide provider-prepared discharge instructions.
  • Maintain appropriate quantities and types of supplies in examination rooms according to provider preferences.
  • Support efficient room utilization and minimize patient wait times.
  • Escort patients to examination areas, obtain vital signs, perform diagnostic testing and specimen collection as ordered, and label, log, and process specimens according to protocol.
  • Enter patient data, condition, and care provided into the electronic medical record system.
  • Perform assigned administrative duties, including scheduling and registration when applicable.
  • Maintain clinical equipment and medical supply levels by reordering, stocking, cleaning, conducting inventory, rotating inventory, monitoring expiration dates, requisitioning supplies, reconciling deliveries, and tracking utilization.
  • Recommend opportunities to reduce equipment and supply costs and resolve product back-order issues with the purchasing department.
  • Implement standard infection-prevention measures, including hand hygiene and contact or isolation precautions, and identify and correct breaches in infection-prevention practices.
  • With registered nurse oversight, precept new employees, explain area requirements, and support competency in area practices.
  • Assist providers as a surgical procedure assistant when needed by preparing rooms and instruments, instructing patients, anticipating provider needs, obtaining instrumentation, preparing and labeling specimens, dressing wounds, checking and calibrating equipment, setting up sterile fields, preparing instrument trays, sterilizing instruments, reviewing discharge instructions, and verifying specimen requisitions and logs.
