Requirements
  • 8–10 years of experience in heavy civil construction safety, or an accredited four-year degree or equivalent in an applicable field with six years of work-related experience, or a combination of education and directly related experience totaling ten years if non-degreed.
  • OSHA 510 and/or OSHA 500 certification.
  • Certified Safety and Health Technician certification.
  • Associate Safety Professional certification.
  • A safety degree.
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA 1926 Construction Standards.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with management, coworkers, clients, vendors, contractors, and other stakeholders.
  • Ability to learn and apply applicable local, state, federal, and client-specific health and safety regulations.
  • Ability to provide mentorship that fosters the growth and competence of less experienced project Health and Safety team members.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
Responsibilities
  • Assist with developing, implementing, and maintaining the project Health and Safety Management Plan.
  • Develop and deliver site-specific safety orientation for employees, subcontractors, and visitors.
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, federal, and client-specific health and safety regulations.
  • Investigate accidents, incidents, and near-misses, and prepare required reports.
  • Liaise between the company, client, insurance carriers, and regulatory agencies regarding audits, remedial actions, workers’ compensation claims, and other health and safety issues.
  • Coordinate health and safety efforts with project management, subcontractors, and site supervisors.
  • Conduct routine site safety inspections and audits to identify hazards, unsafe actions, and appropriate control measures.
  • Monitor project safety performance and key indicators, and provide recommendations to Project Management and Field Supervision.
  • Attend project-management meetings to provide safety input.
  • Attend weekly toolbox talks and pre-shift safety briefings.
  • Organize and conduct safety training sessions required by regulation or company health and safety policy.
  • Travel to other branches and job sites as required.
